About The Oasis at Death Valley

The former Furnace Creek Inn and Ranch Resort was rebranded and renamed The Oasis at Death Valley after $100 million was pumped into the historic desert outpost located in the Death Valley National Park in 2018. The property includes a luxurious 66-room inn and the more family-friendly 224-room ranch adjacent to the the Furnace Creek golf course a short shuttle ride away. The 22 new casitas were built during the project. The ranch feels like a western outpost with a general store, visitor center, gas station, post office, the Fiddler's Creek campground, Furnace Creek stables, the new Last Kind Words Saloon and entertainment for families: A spring-fed pool; tennis, basketball and volleyball courts; horseshoe pits and a playground. The course sits at the lowest elevation in the world, 214 feet below sea level, meaning your ball won't travel nearly as far.

Flat Course Still Recommended

Grass is mostly good, but bare or thin spots in unexpected places. Needed scorecard map to navigate — too few small signs pointing to next hole. Greens putted true. Terrific views and scenery. Uniqueness makes this a must play for traveling golfers. No course drinking water or coolers because of COVID pandemic. Bring your own or you won’t finish. Friendly single staff person. Would play again without question.

The Lowest Round of my life...

It is always fun to play the -est something and this is the lowest golf course in the world. and that made it neat.

The course itself was nothing special. Pretty easy and basic layout. The conditioned were definitely winter conditions as there was a lot of dormant grass. That all be said the weather was perfect (mid 70s) and I had a great time. Pace of was amazing - --> 18 holes in under 2 hours. The scenery surrounding the course was pretty great.

Definitely a must play if you are in the area and I would definitely play it again. I would love to see what it is like to play when it is really hot.

Fun course

Course in great condition for winter months. Not crowded and played quickly. We usually play in higher elevations so trying to figure the distance from each club for this lower elevation was a challenge. Greens were slow, but a fun course to play.

Lowest round in a desert storm.

Place is wild the wind was ripping. Ball would fall out of the air or float to a hault. Make sure you book a hot deal before you get there so you don't have to pay for the resort wifi as theres no service. Greens were slow but if they were any faster wind would blow you right off.

Truly an oasis in the desert

Terrific experience in a place where it is almost impossible to have green grass. The lowest golf course on earth offers a fun layout with lots of water features and serene atmosphere. Drove about 2 hours from Las Vegas to check it out and was very satisfied with the experience. The staff was very friendly and the mulligan burger at the 19th hole was great!

Windy weather

A surprising Oasis in the desert

I was told I would shoot the lowest round of my life on Furnace Creek, but that certainly wasn't the case on a day so windy that we actually worried a sandstorm might descend upon us.
The course was in fine shape for the grand reopening celebration I attended at the Oasis, the newly re-branded and revived resort in the heart of Death Valley. The flat course features few bunkers, but there's enough there to make for a good day. Tall trees lining the fairway are thick in some places, pinching tee shots to make players nervous. A single pond comes into play on several holes, notably the par-3 second hole where I rinsed my shot.
The revamped open-air 19th hole is a popular spot for a drink and/or a beer for resort guests, even if they aren't golfers. With such a beautiful backdrop of mountains and desert, playing at 214 feet below sea level - the world's lowest elevation for golf - delivers a nice high.

Walked

Furnace Creek Golf Course

Sitting at 214 feet below sea level, the 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas is pretty much all down hill. An easy walking course that is fairly wide open, palms & tamarisk trees line a few fairways & some wonderful mountain views in the distance. There were a couple of fairways that had dormant grass but the greens were very good with subtle breaks & rolled well. Give some thought to using an extra club into the greens as your ball doesn't seem to fly as far at this low altitude. Unfortunately bunkers were few & far between & only one water hazard that really didn't come into play. This area is a nice break from the hustle & bustle that is Vegas.
