Devil's Head Resort
About Devil's Head Resort
Devil’s Head Resort in Merrimac in Sauk County has grown from a small ski resort to one of Wisconsin’s best ski-and-golf destinations. The resort opened in 1970 with a 92-room hotel, four chairlifts and 10 runs in 1970. Today, Devil’s Head offers two golf courses, 138 hotel rooms, more suites and condos, six dining options, a conference center and more chairlifts and ski runs. Art Johnson designed both courses, Glacier and Prairie Glen. Glacier navigates a maze of elevation changes with rugged features of rock out-croppings and water on seven holes. Prairie Glen offers its own challenges with island greens and plenty of water and traps.Facts

Glacier course
Was in good shape the course is fun a lot of ups and downs use all your clubs.
Beautiful views
Course was generally in great shape, views are spectacular when you get on top, fun place to play.
Prairie was bad, glacier appears to be better.
Played Prairie Glen yesterday with my wife, greens were not even greens, putting on flat clay frequently, overall course layout was cool but grounds and paths were left to be desired. I played glacier last summer and it was much better. If your going to play this course, don't pay asking price, was barely worth the golfnow price.
Layout
The layout of the Glacier Course was fantastic. We played the white tees making the course about 6,100 yards. Drive position was crucial on many holes. We had one player with some course knowledge that was helpful. The fairway grass was thin in spots as were some of the greens. The views outweighed some of the issues with course conditions. Play this course in the fall for a beautiful experience.
Great course for a good price!
Got to play this course on the 3:30 hot deal. Very fun course that provides all the challenges I look for. The staff are very friendly and are terrific to work with. Will definitely be going back!
Well worth it...
So it's a little hard to find and a few of the greeens were a bit bare but, for what we paid, we really enjoyed this course.Outside of the few greens the rest of the course was in great shape. There are some beautiful holes with long drop-offs from tee-boxes. Definitely not a walker's course!!. Plenty of wildlife and two island greens added to the experience. Finally, the clubhouse staff member was super welcoming and accomodating. Fantastic hospitality. I would've loved to have time to go back and play the other side but it didn't work out.
Great Views, Nice Course - well worth the drive
The Glacier Course has very nice views and challenging but fair holes. It was in very good shape, although the greens were running a bit slow. The greens did hold the ball well, so you could shoot at the pin. The rock "fence lines" were entertaining, and the rough was there, but fair. Plenty of room to land tee shots. Definitely worth the drive from Wisconsin Dells area, especially at the Golf Now prices. Will go again when we get back to the area. Staff was very friendly. Great pace of play with 3:00 p.m. later tee time.
Devils Head
Staff is always great to work with, pace of play is excellent. Course in good shape, some patches on greens, but always walk away after my round satisfied.
rough but worth-it
Course layout was interesting with great scenery but condition of course doesn't allow course to be great. Condition of the first green area was terrible and leaves a bad taste immediately. Starter and staff were great and the place has a good resort feel. Very nice course just lacks some upkeep.
Great course, dog legs and woods with nice views
Played a 4 some and had a great time, course in in excellent shape, greens ran 7s for speed but had some tough pin placements. We played Glacier which seems to be the better choice of the 2.
It's challenging and rewarding at the same time.
My only gripe was the beverage cart service was non exsistent after 5, hard to believe when the course was relatively busy that they don't have coverage
Prairie Glen in Rough Shape
It may be early in the year but the Prairie Glen course is in rough shape. Many areas of greens and fairways that are dead or no turf exists. The tee boxes were plush and green but a bit shaggy.
I enjoy Devil's Head courses but it makes it harder to enjoy when a put rolls over an area of dirt/sand or a nice drive in the fairway lands in the same condition.
the glacier
Fun layout but the greens were in bad shape after aeration. I know it's not peak season yet but they were very fuzzy and slow. I will come back to play after the greens have had time to shape up. Great value though and very few on the course so we never had to wait. Great scenery too.
good value for your golfing dollar
Have been playing this course since it first opened in the mid 70's. With a little TLC this course could be a solid 4 star bargain. Nice atmosphere and greens/fairways are just fine. Its the little things that could really make this a hidden gem. I play it every year golf food drink wildlife and animals too!
A Not-to-Miss Course!
This course is such an extreme value! It is easily one of the most beautiful courses in the area, with a fair amount of challenge, and a wonderful staff! It is well-maintained, and has every amenity you could hope for . GREAT course for the casual duffer all the way up to a near-pro!
Best Around Merrimac
I played the glacier course this time for the first time.
The course was in excellent shape and I played with my family as a 3-some. The pace of play was fine...not pushed at all.
Awesome Course
Great scenery and very challenging holes. The course is very well laid out and finding the next hole is a breeze. Two island holes add to the excitement.
Very nice views
Great conditioning greens were a little bare in spots but overall very receptive and putt true!
Back in the middle of no where is Devils Head
I played Devils Head's Glacier Course for a steel of a price thanks to GN. I was paired up witch I like with a older brother & sister team, and enjoyed there company. When I got there they were having a lot of traffic due to an golf outing finishing up. But the course was not as I thought it would be. And having only 3 sets of tee boxes 2 for the guys and one woman's tees. I played the back tees and found it fairly easy. After the first 2 holes the course got a bit better I used a 3 wood and was in the middle all day here, and when I hit the wide open holes used my driver and played smart off the tees here and I only lost one ball on 18 because I was 185 out a fired a 5 wood to the green and the pin was tucked in back left corner and I just missed clearing the water as it bounced off the wall. Has a nice layout, but play before the afternoon because the misquitos will effect your round being deep into the woods here. Was a fun one time play and I played on a second round day after playing in Madison in the morning, was only an hour drive here. The greens were the great thing here, Soft so you could fire at them and stick and not bounce off. And fairly big greens. I would say Glacier is senic to. I had fun getting through it with my playing partners, and Mary was the gal I played with, and she could play for being in her 50's. As could Bob. We finished this course under 4 hours which I love. I would recommend playing here a couple times. I holed out this track with a 43-40=83 which is my handicap 11. And thank god on hole 9 or 10 you hit toward a pond on the right. well I hit my second shot here towards the ob be pin high, I found it, I got a shocker,, as I stepped right next to a rattle snake that was dead, see photos as proof. If it was alive it was about a 6 footer, I would of been bitten. WOW!!!
Had a great day with good friends
Had the course to ourselves. Week day afternoon. Perfect weather. Friendly helpful staff.
Great course carved into the Baraboo Bluffs
Beautiful views and course was in good shape...for going on the 4th of July I would ha e expected multiple beverage carts on the course but we only seen 1 at hole 5 and never had any service again!
