DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE

Played on the evening on the 30th April and I can honestly say it was the worst golfing experience I have ever had in the 20+ years that I have been playing the game.

Where to start.
Fairways uncut and 8 inches deep, lost numerous balls after hitting drives into the so called "fairways", holes in the floor, tractor tracks everywhere, nearly rolled my ankles on numerous occasions on hidden holes in the ground (presenting a safety risk) especially for older players, hardly possible to walk on with the grass being so long everywhere, tee areas patchy and uneven, greens very poor with the ball bobbling a lot.

Only the last hole the grass was sort of cut properly and even that green was patchy.

If you go in the first cut of rough, forget looking for your ball.
Greens/bunkers appear either diseased or bare and most of them are under GUR or have incomplete turfing.
I have sympathy with the recent bad weather that we have had in terms of maintenance but to have the course open in the first place and then charge £25 per person per round is wrong!!

Prior to booking the day before I had rang up and asked the guy in the pro shop if the greens were on full 18 holes and the response i got was "weather depending".
If i had known that the course was in such a state we would not have booked and played on it and we really should have been advised on this.
Just feel like we have been conned out of paying £25 with the course appearing desperate for money, hence them allowing us to book this in the first place.

The guy in the pro shop was friendly, hence the 4 star review on this and not sure if he was fully clued up with the overall state of the course but i wouldn't have even gave a 1 star review if provided with that option.
Massive shame as have played this course numerous times over the last couple of years and it has always been spot on.
Looks like it has been totally let go and it should be closed down in order for full maintenance to be carried out.

I will be demanding a full refund but after this review i highly doubt that I will receive one.
It is only right that I inform other people who are intending to book a round here not to play on the course.

A Rough Day!

Checked the club website before booking and it stated all greens and tees on. Unfortunately these were obviously the only parts of the course that had seen a mower for months! I appreciate that we have had bad weather recently but the muni I play normally is in fantastic condition compared to this. Hard to distinguish between the fairway and primary rough and spent most of the round looking for balls despite finding middle of fairway on numerous occasions. Luckily managed to find a few pieces of concrete to play with along the way in order to save my decent balls. I suggest that the course shuts for a week of maintenance to get it in order for the forthcoming golf season as this is not golf as we know it! Reminded me of trying to play football on council pitch when the groundsman had been on strike! Charged £25 for the privilege.

Playing out the rough

From the Tee boxes to the fairway the grass was like playing out the rough. I understand weve had a bad winter but i play every week and this is the worse course i have ever played. Still charging £20 a round and it was full i suggest they spend it on upgrading drainage.

Don’t bother!

To begin with when I got to the pro shop, I was told that the 11th was out, two holes were on temporary tees and two holes on temporary greens. All the tees are like rough, so much that your club slows down on the follow through, all the fairways are like rough, with grass cuttings all over the place and all the greens are like fairways and the rough forget it. This game at this course should be” let’s go find my ball on the fairway” because every time I hit the fairway and my phone says 100% I lost 6 balls on the fairway. There was tractor tyres 7inches deep across the fairways. The temp greens were just holes on the on the uncut fairway. There were grass cuttings all over the fairway. Personally, you’d be better going down to the local park and dodge the dog mess. Don’t bother

Avoid at all costs !

I’ve been playing this course for over 10 years. It used to be a cracking little course with excellent greens and fairways but now it seems that the fairways are no longer cut, bunkers no longer raked, greens left to rack and ruin. It’s a disgrace to even charge customers a fee to play this course, it’s nothing more than a large field with flags intermittently places in the ground.

Widnes golf club

2 holes shut
All temporary Tees
4 temp greens
No trolleys unless you have hedgehog wheels
Grass not getting cut on the fairways

None of which is stated on golf now which is disappointing. Especially after driving to the course.

Greens are superb!

The greens here are so good, nice and firm and get decent break on them.. especially for this time of the year. Fairways and rough need a bit of attention as some are way to long but the course layout is a good challenge and lots of opportunities for birdie. Will be returning here again

Not worth the aggravation

First I didn’t see that the course had one hole out and unplayable, nor did I know that 2 of the holes had temporary greens and more than one hole had temporary tees. Other than than the greens are as long as a fairway the fairways are as long as the rough and the rough just forget it. On this course you could rename the game “let’s go look for the ball on the fairway”. The fairways were too long it was like playing out of the rough. There is grass cuttings all over the fairway and big tractors tyre marks as deep as 7 inches. This is the third time I’ve played here and there’s something wrong with the course. I won’t play here again.

Golf course should of been closed

Played the course today , it should of been closed. We have had a lot of bad weather over the last few weeks an months.

This is great course and great layout. First week in January anywhere would of been difficult to get a decent game of golf.

Not Playable

Arrived at course to be told that due to ground conditions, no trolleys allowed. Did attempt to contact us but already on way. Ground conditions were awful. Very wet plugged balls even on fairway. Took 45 minutes to play first two holes due to slow play ahead ! Cut across to play some of back nine. Played only 9 holes. Lot of standing water in places and we were of the view that course should have been closed. On discussing with staff after, apparently the course has a no closure policy due to members. Seemed nice enough course but overall was poor on the day.
If the play is usually that slow would be 5+ hours to play which is unacceptable.

Round blighted by leaves on the course

The round was somewhat ruined by the abundance of leaves on the course meaning a lot of lost balls that in other circumstances wouldn’t have been lost.

Easy Walj

Staff, greens staff & Pro really polite, and more than helpful.
Well maintained course and green’s in very good condition for the amount of rain we’ve had, but not too keen on the layout and got to be honest, a bit boring.
It’s an easy walk, so if it’s a nice stroll with a set of clubs you like, this could be for you, but not very well marked out from green’s to the next tee’s.

You have to play this course

I’m from Edinburgh and every time I’m in Liverpool I play here. The layout of the course is superb, fantastic par 3’s so well protected with bunkers and small greens. The greens are the best surface I’ve played this season to date. The fairways and fringes cut so well. Putting is pure rolls and great speed on perfect surfaces. This is a fantastic course. Club house excellent service and the green keepers should be so proud of the work they are doing. Thanks stuart
