Power Rankings for May 2: Georgia resort course tops, plus photo and review of the week

We're into the first week of May, and courses all over North America are beginning to receive strong ratings from reviewers on Golf Advisor. Courses from Florida to Canada, earned high marks.

The top course of the week is one of our most popular golf courses in Georgia, King and Prince Golf and Beach Resort in Saint Simons Island. Perhaps a little lesser known and a shorter layout compared to Sea Island Plantation, King and Prince still delivers some great coastal holes at a great price, which is why it was named the state's best course in 2015 according to ratings from golfers on Golf Advisor.

You can view the full top 10 below, as well as our featured photo and review of the week, selected from more than 1,200 reviews last week.

Last week -- in the run-up to the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. -- we spotlighted five of North Carolina's top golf destinations, with the western Carolina destination of Asheville being among them. One of the chief reasons why is Omni Grove Park Inn, a classic Donald Ross design in the mountains. And reviewer u516863476 shared a few shots of his five-star round (read the review here):

Golf course review of the week

Florida residents are already beginning to enjoy the absence of snowbirds from their fairways. That's particularly true in the Naples area, which has many private clubs that open up their tee sheets to the public come May. Reviewer eddiehil filed this five-star review of Countryside Golf Club in Naples:

The "season" for part time residents of south Florida has ended for another year. This allows permanent residents, like me, to visit the private clubs and resorts at a much lower cost than "in-season." I was privileged to recently have an opportunity to play the golf course at Countryside Golf and Country Club, a private, gated community in the south Naples area. The staff were friendly and accommodating, from the cart guy to the pro shop attendants, making a good first impression upon our arrival. The practice area is very nice and affords a good pregame warmup. The practice green had been 'punched' about a week prior and served as a good indicator of overall green conditions found on the course this day; the greens were rolling fairly true and about a 9 or 10 on the Stemp meter. Lucky for me one of my playing partners had played here and gave me knowledge useful to a newbie. The course is fairly wide open through the fairways but if you fade your tee shot, as I sometimes do, the water can come into play on several holes. I have to say the overall course conditions were exceptional, as with any 'private' club, beautifully maintained throughout. We played the 18 in about three and one half hours. The Ladies' League were playing behind us and kept good pace as well. Nice to get an eighteen hole round in in less than four hours. I am sure this is not the case "in season." If you are in the Naples area be sure to place Countryside Golf and Country Club on your 'to play list.'
