Great Condition
This golf course has become a 9 hole course although you can play 18 and have a different feel for the course because they mark different tee boxes for the back 9. I would think this would jam up the course on a busy day. This was not my experience though. The golf course was in EXCELLENT condition. I really enjoyed my time here.
Now a 9 hole course.
The front 9 is being torn up for houses. Greens are slow but in good condition. Fairways are below average. Good course for beginners and elderly. Club house to be opened eventually.
Enjoyable course
Very enjoyable course that was in nice condition. The layout is straight forward, not overly long The course is not complicated from Tee to green, but the greens are challenging with slope and undulation. Well maintained overall, greens were in very good shape. I recommend the course and would play again. It's a bit of a drive to get to as its in a rural area.
Great greens
Good course with a great staff. It's a shame I found out that there going to close this place down to build homes. It's a shame since they have some of the nicest greens I have seen with the weather we have been having. They keep them a little high but with the slopes of the greens I don't think that is a big deal overall. There are some spots in the rough where the ground is very hard but overall I would play this course again if there is any chance it stays open.
First Timer from Georgia
The front 9 was in very good shape; some spots on the back 9 were a little rough. We arrived early and the starter gave us no grief about starting early. This was a great idea as we noticed it was very busy as we made the turn. My favorite hole was number 10. I give the course conditions a 4 out of 5 due to several greens on the back 9 being a little rough. (They probably only deserve a 2 or 3 though, as their "signature" hole was the one in the worse condition). Overall the course was in good shape and I would gladly play here again.
Quick round
I played very early as a single, I was the 2nd out played quick, about 2 hours
honesty
Course was packed for a Thursday. Pace of play was brutal, especially for a 93 degree day. Over 4 1/2 hours. Still, a great course, hope this doesn't happen again.
Great Value
Nice layout with only a few gimme holes. Course was in above average condition condition especially for drought like weather. Greens were slower but in great shape and consistent from start to finish.
Limited amenities, but well maintained flowers were a nice touch on some holes. Well above value relative to condition. Will play again.
well maintained
Knowing the greens are real advantage here. Uphill putts are essential to scoring low. Good place to walk if your into it. There's high tension wires on the back nine. The ball seemed to sit up in the rough.
Very Nice Course
I love this course. There some long par 4 holes. Cant believe they're going to develop the land ....NO DONT , WE THE PEOPLE BEG!
Play this course
I have been playing this course since 1975 and I have never seen it ever looking this good.everything was great greens, fairways traps and tees. Also try the steak sandwich. There are still rumors this course will be destroyed for housing what a shame for a great layout. You would think they could find a piece of property somewhere nearby.
Waste of money and time-Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recommend you play else-where. Rude staff, bare fairways.
I went today and they told me they are going from 18 holes to 9 in November, It shows-Last time I was there, my friends car window was smashed in and he had his wallet and other items stolen.
Great place if you want to wear cut off shorts and tank tops--actually saw one guy with no shirt ON...what a waste of time...
Greens were ok
Sand-not taken care of
Other golfers seem to play whatever hole they want-we were having a clear round until 10th--2 four balls cut in front, no reason.
The HAWK is BACK!!!!
So this course should be called the Phoenix because it truly rose from the ashes to become even better. It was a great course in the 80's then had some rough times in the 90's but in the last 3 years it has returned to it's full glory. It plays longer than it seems and the layout is challenging. There are some open areas but there are some doglegs (#10) that will really make you think about what shot your going to attempt! The greens are pretty fast and the course is in excellent shape from tee boxes to fairways to bunkers to greens everything is well maintained and groomed. I never saw as many staff working on a weekend to keep this place in the great shape it is in. It's getting more on the pricy side for weekend primetime but it is worth it.
The hawk is back
Course was in great shape greens were slew but flawless, one of my favorite round so far this season.
Racing the weather
Hawk Valley is a little over an hour from home I'm in Pa, right by 896 an express way to north or south. Saturday morning I have an 8:45 tee time I leave at 7 allowing an easy travel pace check in time and hit a few balls etc.. Within minutes of leaving home it began rainig the size of the drops growing and becoming steadier. I continued on I watched the doppler before leaving and figured this would happen. The ride was pretty easy, the rain was steady when I got there to the shed by the cart storage basement. I checked in and asked whats the radar look like,, not very good was the reply " looks like it may be wet all day. Ok,, I'm playing anyway no warm up, no stretching no playing partner. Hole 1 I think I'll go blue today 3 wood,, pop fly just got into the fairway,, ok i'll play 2 balls since nobody is behing me and there is a 4some out there somewhere. 2nd ball 3 wood great contact the 2nd one is always better. Thats how I played the rest of the morning, 2 balls no pressure. This is a great course I liked everything about it,, well maintained open fairways but tree lined,, thick rough not hard to find a ball put not easy either. (The rain has stopped by the end of the 1st hole by the way) The tips tee boxes (some of them ) were rather small to me seemed more like a drop area than a tee box. What I liked about Hawk Valley GC was that it wasn't full of tricks and gimmiks, it has a nice layout of fairways, enough straight away and doglegs ( it doesn't favor a left handed fade as many do ) you have to be able to hit str8.There is water in the right places I splashed ball 2 on 9 so i finished the front tied ball 1 vs ball 2 46 all. In the midst of my round more and more players are on the course but I was way ahead of any who showed up after myself. The back 9 similar to the front But the most noticable " to me anyway " is how CLEAN this place is. Hats off the the staff and patrons.
I think the back 9 my only thing is it could have used a few more directional signs to the holes I came off 10,, played the 11 par 3 then teed off on 14 as a 1st time player its easy to do. The rain is still holding off. I left my drives 1 and 2 in the fairway of 14 when I realized what I did I moved to hole 12 and played back up 13 to fairway of 14 put 1 on the elevated green and the other in the right side bunker. I parred both balls. 15 is on top of the hill a 500 yard par 5 dont go left. You wrapp it up with a par 4 par 3 and 18 is a par 4. Keep in mind i've been watching the sky and wind since I started,, its been puffing a cool breeze and begining to sprinkle since Marathon ( each hole has a name ) I am going to play here again before the end of the season, I reccomend this course whole hearted. I would have done a 2nd round if the day was pleasant, I would have played whites and 1 ball. My final from the blues was ball 1- 93 / ball 2- 96
I did not eat there so no review, maybe next time.
Great course
The course was in great shape. Staff was very friendly.
Definitely will be back.
Hidden gem!
Played Hawk Valley for the first time in a few years and enjoyed it very much. Even though it's a 45 ride from West Chester it is totally worth it. To be able to play at the end of October was an added plus, despite the leaves. Workers did an excellent job keeping leaves off the fairway.....if only I could do as good a job keeping my ball on the fairway. Lot of slope on the greens but they're still fair. Just wish I lived closer to play it more. It was definitely worth the bang for the buck going through Golf Now too!
Very nice course
The course has a very nice layout and was in very good condition.
Must play, well kept!
Greens were perfect but fast & tricky. Great course for seniors from the forward tees. Pretty views from many tee boxes. Had my 2nd hole in one on a Par 3
109 yds. with a PW
I knew the day would come but hearing that the front nine is gone and eventually the back nine too for ... more houses... makes me sick. RIP: The Hawk
