Going to be nice
Very nice layout, and the fairways are well kept. It is certainly worth playing now at half price. When they replant the greens and get them up to snuff (which they plan to do next summer), will be a course I would enjoy playing. The only caveat is that members of the club are a bit older (got behind a member tournament) and the pace of play can be slow.
Greens Dead
This course shouldn’t be on Golfnow right now. Course has purposely killed the greens preparing them to be replaced. I can see $10 to $15, but customers should also be made aware
Its a trap
I played this course years ago and had fun. The practice facility was nice and the course was challenging but not overkill for somebody new to golf. This time was horrible. The tee boxes were fine, even the fairways were in decent shape for most of the round, but every single green was atrocious. It was down to the top layer of dirt. If I had known it was that bad, I would have played somewhere else. Not worth what was charged and definitely wont go play there again until they completely renovate the greens. It has potential, its a nice area, good layout, but the greens take away from your experience in a distracting amount.
Beatiful golf course
BRGC has a very beatiful layout, fairway was exllent,
Called for tee time and cost . Said rates were $65 but had special for _35 . Asked about greens said they were Punched 3 weeks ago and were healing well. Greens were terrible , traps were full of rocks, we used to play this course 6- 8 years ago and has not improved. We will never play here again! Can't believe they want $65 to play it ! Wouldn't recommend to anyone! Truth hurts!
Thanks
Very nice course for time of year very challenging
Gene Hamm at His Best
I have been amiss all these years by not taking the opportunities I had in the past to play Beacon Ridge Golf and Country Club. I can recall when they first opened in 1988 and I had several chances to "go play".
I am a lover of the old traditional courses by designers such as Gene Hamm, Ellis Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd. These guys built some fine courses and Beacon Ridge is one of Hamm's very best.
Who knew in the "Sandhills" area of North Carolina there is property with elevation changes of a couple hundred feet on the same hole? (BTW, we played all 18 holes, how can you not play 9 if you play 18?)
Our group was quite surprised to find the course on this Sunday morning was not busy, matter of fact the parking lot held only four cars other than ours and the first tee was open with no other golfers in sight except for the few on the driving range. What a day and what a course to have all to one's self.
The course from tee to green was nicely kept and the ball sat up well in the fairways. The rough was heavy but not punishing to the point of loosing balls a foot or so off the fairway.
I do need to point out the Penncross Bent grass greens on the front nine were in sad shape as compared to those on the back nine. Word is the greens crew had made some sort of miscalculation while attending to the chemical treatment earlier in the spring, but caught the mistake prior to the application on the back nine greens, leaving the front side greens spotty and somewhat bumpy. (Chambers Bay like)
It would not surprise me to see the club change over to the Tiff Dwarf Bermuda in the future which would increase the Stimpmeter speed from an eight to a ten at least and smooth out those bumps of despair.
As with any private or semi private course we found the staff to be varied in personality and service. Some staff were very happy to see us and provide services while another staff member was not service oriented nor, it appeared to me, wanted to be there what so ever. Perhaps it was their personality or maybe a bad day at work, either way not an acceptable service provider for either members or the public.
All things considered, our group consensus was, we "will be back"; we loved the layout and expect a full recovery for those weak greens on the front. This 6414 yard course plays somewhat longer due to the elevation changes and is a joy to experience.
When you make the trip to the Pinehurst area take time to visit Beacon Ridger Golf and Country Club. It is a short drive from the nine courses of Pinhurst Resort and the difference is well worth the drive.
First Timer
My first time to West End was a great experience! I took a friend who had never played in the Sandhills area before and he loved it, as did I. We found the staff friendly and helpful. The coarse conditions were excellent and we were especially impressed by the bent greens, which rolled true and fast. We played 27 holes in less than five hours. We will be back!
Course was in great shape
The course was in great shape.
First time I played it in over 5 yrs
but really enjoyed it and will
definitely visit again so I can
reduce some of my 3 putts :-)

Don't look at the 6,414 yards on the scorecard and snicker. An endless parade of uphill approach shots to elevated greens makes this Gene Ham design circa 1988 play up to 6,900 yards.
The members call the 389-yard, par-4 sixth hole “the shortest par-5 in Moore County”. The long approach shot rises uphill over a single bunker to a green slanted back-to-front like playground slide. There is one slight hiccup in the routing. A pond pinching the fourth fairway forces an awkward layup off the tee of a demanding uphill par-5. But the stroke will likely be given back at no. 16, a 475-yard par-5 reachable in two for even average hitters.
All in all, Beacon Ridge is pure fun to play.
Nice Course
Fairways were well trimmed and the Greens were in great shape with occasional challenging slopes. Sand traps had real sand! Somewhat challenging course with lots of elevation. Overall, a nice course. Only drawback for me was the location - kind of out in the middle of nowhere and away from everything. It was a little long from my home to play regularly.
GREAT CONDITIONS
Thanks Matt and staff, the course in in great shape. As always not a bad thing to say. Don't miss this course, it is a must play in the Pinehurst area.
Great course, great value for the money, super greens.
This was the first course we played in the area and we were not disappointed. We were given the twilight rate of $29 to ride, and it was worth every penny. We had the course to ourselves with a 2:00 tee time and got through in 3 1/2 hours. Very enjoyable and will definitely play again the next time we are in the area.
This course is dominated with elevation challenges and a variety of water hazards
This was a great course to play as it was totally different from anything I have played yet. Located in a gated community with gorgeous plantation style clubhouse this course offers a great way to test your skills over coming water hazards and the constant change of the terrain elevation on each hole. Greens are very tight and fast, carts are well maintained, and the staff was very friendly. Plus the deal I got on GolfNow was great! $20 for everything and the tee time I wanted!
Challenging, but fair -- good condition
We found this course to be challenging, yet fair. In good condition, fairways very good, greens, still recovering from recent punching. Excellent
rate on Golf Now.
Excellent course and great value for a Saturday play.
Course layout was excellent and being able to play with 3 members enabled a better scoring round because of the course knowledge and green reads. The round was slow because the course was wall-to-wall golfers on a Saturday.
Nice Course
Greens rolled very smooth. Fairways well maintained and rough manageable. Nice course and well taken care of.
Great value
We played the value tee time. For $14, this was an awesome course. It wasn't busy at all. Nobody in front or behind us. About half of the fairways are bowl shaped, so if you hit left or right, it'll roll back towards the middle. Overall, great game, very relaxing. I wouldn't pay $60 for it, but it was still a pleasant experience.
Has been good for a long time.
Don't be deceived by yardage, look at slope rating. A lot of uphill approach shots.
Beacon Ridge
Well laid out course. Some difficult holes. Plenty of character. Course was in good shape.
Could not agree more. This course used to be great, but they have completely lost all of the greens and allowing people to pay anything more than 10-15 without warning them about the course conditions is ridiculous.
