Palmer at Saddlebrook Golf & Tennis Resort
About
The Palmer Course is one of two championship courses designed by Arnold Palmer at the Saddlebrook Resort just north of Tampa. Although it is seemingly tame at 6,273 yards, it plays much tougher. The golf course features more elevation changes than the resort's other course, the Saddlebrook. The undulating, tree-lined fairways were designed to mimic a hilly New England course but the moss-covered cypresses, palm trees, and marshy swamplands are true to the Florida landscape. The layout features tight fairways framed with contoured mounding and the occasional water hazard but the most formidable challenge comes from the bunkers strategically placed along the undulating greens. The approaches to the tiered greens, which are often sloped from back to front, demand accuracy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag and employ a variety of different shots.

tough course Photo submitted by webbknight on 08/31/2015
Love it.
First time playing both courses, love it! Lots of tall trees and water view around make a beautiful beautiful scenery and challenging. Not the perfect perfect condition but love to play there again & I'm sure I will be back.
Enjoy playing this course every now and then.
Restaurant closed ongoing renovation. Snack bar closed, little inconvenience.
Enjoy playing Palmer course. Greens can be made very challenging with pin placements.
Course in good condition. Question why snake bar closed, with renovation ongoing in restaurant.
No snack bar available/too slow
Even that course was not very crowded during the week we were behind a very slow foursome that never gave a twosome the chance to pass them , palmer course snack bar at 10 hole is closed most of the times it is tough to get 18 holes with no drinks
Challenging Course for average golfer...
First time player, little confused about driving range location and parking (due to construction). Beautiful course, very well maintained considering area was in a drought, strategically placed sand traps make course challenging, great deal on Golf Now which includes driving range. My advice for newbies... get there early to figure out driving range location (accessible via long golf cart drive) so you can utilize it if desired before your round. Course is difficult if you cannot hit for distance, luckily my drives were great, unfortunately my irons sucked, lol. Would definitely recommend if you are playing good golf. Golf carts have GPS restrictions which at times seem ridiculous and annoying, pace was average to a little slow considering course was not overwhelmingly crowded.
Solid course every time
The course is always in consistent shape. Greens were rolling much faster than last time I played it. So that was an unexpected but welcome change. I love the quirky layout Mr Palmer cut out. The smaller greens put a premium on iron and wedge play. The speed teamed up with the undulating greens proved to be an awesome combination.
Greens were relatively slow, course layout with lots of water in play, no flat greens here. Good challenging course.
Great value
The course was in very good condition and the entire staff at Saddlebrook was extremely professional and helpful. I would highly recommend playing either course at Saddlebrook.
Great Course, Greens Have Some Problems
We played Saddlebrook. Tighter fairways than the Palmer course, but larger greens.
Some of the greens have weeds which impacts putting quite a bit.
Also the speed of the greens wasn’t consistent. Some were very quick, while others were slow.
Sand traps looked to be in good condition. Fortunately I wasn’t in them.
Staff was great, food at the turn was pretty good, but expensive. A burger and quesadillas was $45 without tip.
Wasn’t busy, and we (a twosome) ram into another twosome who let us play through after a couple holes.
A LOT of water along the course, so you better play well.
Carts have screens for distance. Very accurate.
Practice facility was good, but far from both courses. At least a 5 minute ride in the cart to get there.
I’d play there again, but I’d hope they’d remove the weeds from the greens.
Pace of play! & TIp,Tip,TIp
Tee off around noon, front 9 in an hour and a half, back nine 3 and a half hours. 3 groups backed up behind us an never saw a ranger. the carts have GPS and they know where you are and how long you've been waiting so where was the RANGER!
This was our first time at Saddlebrook and I must say that the course is in excellent condition less the traps and bunkers that were like cement.
Upon arrival at the bag drop you are greeted by the valet, which is mandatory, then told the pro shop is about 200 yards back into the resort. You can walk or we can arrange for transportation for you and your clubs, "Tips appreciated" .Check in at the pro show and have your valet slip approved, then to the starter shack to load up a cart and get directed as to where to go. When you return to the cart return area which requires another ride to the front of the resort, "TIPS Appreciated". See the valet, wait for your car to arrive, load your car yourself and then when you go to get into your car their is the valet waiting for his TIP.
Everyone has their hand out.
Nice course but I don't think I'll be back
Wesley Chapel Best Course you can play
The course was in good condition. Fairways were great. The greens. had just been airrated and coveredwith sand..
Confusing Entry
Right now they are renovating and it was ver confusing where to park and find the club house. Had I not been there before and had a general idea I would have been lost.
