About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Not bad but needs some TLC
Greens were rough, fairways acceptable, bunkers haven't been groomed in a long time (hard as cement/dirt). Customer service was OK, food on the other hand was microwaved and just filler.
a fine day on the course.
It was a fine day on the course. The rain didn't happen and from previous reviews I was expecting the course to be in pretty sad shape. I was pleasantly surprised. It was in pretty good shape. It is one of the tougher courses that I play with lots of carries over desert to reach the fairways. Very challenging course in a beautiful setting.
Excellent course features
One of the nicest courses in all of Tucson. Definitely a challenging course and one of those courses where it helps to have a little course knowledge. The second time around is more rewarding because you know the lay of the land, where to put your ball and where not to put your ball. All in all, a great round of golf!
Another former IRI managed course.
Still an interesting layout. Desert target golf.
Unfortunately, anything that IRI mgmt has touched has gone to the dogs.(San Pedro,
San Ignacio, 49er, Arizona National, Canoa Hills)
I'll give it another season to see if it comes back to its original glory.
Golf now good green fee
The course has deteriorated since I played it a few years ago
Good course but needs Care
Greens need to be punched and sanded. Fairways need aerated or punched. Bathroom and Ice machine closed or broken at turn. Very short staff however quite competent and helpful.
Wow!
I play alot of golf throughout the state..,I honestly cannot remember ever having been so satisfied with a round of golf..,the price was so reasonable and the overall experience of the round was so high quality that it made my personal list of "best deals ever" AND " best courses played" at once! I loved this course and would practically lie, cheat ,or steal to play it again.,Don't take my word for it..,GO ! Treat yourself..,you'll be glad you did. And by the way..,I didn't really even shoot that well..,lol!!
Potential
Course is need of some tender love and care. Greens are just atrocious...grainy, bumpy and hard. Good deal for $20 with lunch...enticing price but if you want to play well then I would pass due to greens. Course is challenging and driver not an option always...recommend GPS. Water on course but no cups...bring bottle. If they get a hold of the course I would play again but until they do I will go elsewhere.
I would not recommend this course to my friends
The course was in over all bad condition.
The driving range balls were all in poor condition
and several brands and some look like they were
in water for a long time.
Tee boxes were in poor condition with so many
divots they was no place to stand and tee up the ball. Some of the tee boxes the grass was about
an inch tall with debris al over it.
The greens were very bad and bumpy and a lot of
bear spots. The grass was different lengths and
need to be cut.
The course is not very well marked with yardage
distances so you would need a GPS to help playing.
The 19th hole only had one selection on the beer
and I would go some were else to eat.
Potential good, condition poor
Once a premier course but now kind of "down in the heels". With better care has the potential to be a stand-out venue.
Once great course let go
It's been over ten years since I played Vistoso. Back then, it was a great place to play - beautifully manicured, fun layout, well staffed, nice range facilities, but a bit too expensive. Today, it's the same good layout, but everything has gone downhill. The course is suffering from lack of maintenance. Piles of grass clippings everywhere, due to the grass getting much too high. The bunkers were in poor condition, lacking sand in many places and hardened. The greens were very rough. The restaurant serves only 5 or six lunch items of average quality. It broke my heart to see this once great facility in the shape it's in.
Great layout, was once a top shelf course
A few years ago this was one of Tucson's best Golf Courses, fast greens, perfectly manicured. Now it's fairways and greens are just average and need attention. Some might excuse the condition as the transition period before winter over-seeding, however, the landscape, the practice area and other public areas have been lacking in general maintenance. I really hope the when it opens after over-seeding the conditions improve.
not an overly difficult course if you know whee the fairway ends
All and all not a bad course the greens were bumpy and the back 9 some where in distress making scoring hard.
My biggest complaint was that it was difficult on some holes to see the fairway or aiming posts ( I did play the back tees which was probably a mistake not playing the course before or playing with someone whho knew the course), good shots ended up badly because they would run through or off fairways . With some knowledge and better greens it would have been more enjoyable . I'd try it again, but would play more percentage shots and drive up to see fairway before hitting. the tee marker pictures were not as helpful as I thought they should be. The 14th hole was the worst depicted should be renamed "STUPID".
Overbooked
When we arrived at the course we were told they had a shotgun start that morning at 7:30 and they had scheduled tee times starting at 11:18 for regular play. We were over thirty minutes late for our tee time.
Day of Golf.
The course was in fair shape. Some of the fairways need some help and the green's were a little bumpy. The bunkers need some help also. Over all enjoyed the round of golf. Golf cart number 54 needs some work, a front end alignment would help.
You need to know the course
The course has a very good layout. Many holes you are not sure where are you going so it gets a bit frustrating. Just needs some trimming on desert landscape to have a better idea. Greens were a bit slow and bumpy but definitely playable.
This course is a good play at Summer rates.
A good play at Summer rates but course and facilities are in need of some repairs to bring it back to the state it was 5+ years ago.
19th hole
the 19th hole has a lot of potential. patio is awesome. food and beverages are lacking. menu needs more selections. great course if u don't go to the 19th hole.
Don't play until they fix it
El rio is in better shape. Very disappointed with this golf coarse. No grass on the back tees and greens are shaggy. Fairways with dead grass and dirt.
