About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

This is not an easy Course but it is a fun one. OB Sports is doing a great job bringing it up to it's old standards. The staff are friendly and helpful. I play it once or twice a year when I have friends from out of town. It is in the best condition I have seen for a long time. I would recommend it.
Nice desert course
Very tough for a high handicapper as narrow fairways and landing areas, even from the front tees
New management this year
Fairways excellent, some greens bumpy overall average. I've played this course 20 plus times last two years and was little disappointed in greens this time, greens fast but bumpy. Certainly will play again.
Great setting
Lots of opportunities for trouble if you are unable to control your ball. Distances need to be known to make the proper club selection. The course is not well marked. Highly suggest a garman etc.
behind schedule, enjoyed the sunset
there was a shotgun tournament earlier in the day that seemed to set everybody back and slower than usual.
Short stay must play!
I am here in Tucson for a short stay, for the second time this year. I got out about 130 pm and finished up right at 530 just prior to sunset. The course was beautiful in the desert afternoon. They just finished over seeding so the fairways were a bit long but still very playable, shots didn't run after landing but that did help a few miss hits to stay on the fairway. The greens were very well taken care of and were moderately challenging. The facility overall is outstanding and the staff is some of the best I have encountered ever. If you're in town you must play at Vistoso!
Great Day, Great Course
Picture perfect day on a picture perfect course. Course has received a great winter overseed on fairways and greens.
Beautiful windup.... Weak delivery.
There was obviously a considerable investment and expectation for this course. It is is nicely laid out with some very challenging holes; the area is beautiful and there are some really nice looks. However, the fairways were scorched and the greens were bumpy. It is really sad.... It could be a great course.
Poor course conditions
Hard to complain when greens fee included cart and lunch. We didn't realize that the Vistoso course was making preparations for reseeding with winter rye next week. The fairways were not being watered and were hard as a rock with little grass or bare ground in many places. Grass basically dead on the range, and the range was pretty scarred from lots of use. Well hit balls down the middle could not hold fairway in many places because the ground was like a pool table. Greens were in reasonable shape. We would have quit after nine, but it was too early to claim our free lunch :) so we finished. Played with two very nice local guys in our foursome.
The desert was beautiful and we saw a bobcat which made it all worthwhile
I'm sure the price was so low because of the overseeding. That should have been printed in the price or somewhere so we would have known.
need course condition details
there was no mention on golfnow website of the course being prepped for overseeding
there was no grass on the course
my rating would be much higher if/when the course was ready for play
at this time, I would not recommend playing here
Vistoso with no Alerts
When the course is this dry prior to re-seeding there should be an "Alert", like I see on other courses in Golfnow Tucson. Not sure if Golfnow or Vistoso is at fault here. Prices were low, but there should have been an Alert regardless.
Brown Out!
Hard to find any green (watered) fairway, green or rough.
All areas were HARD. When $18 is a bad value, course
is poor. Took 2.5 hours to play 9 in poor conditions, so I left.
love the layout. No two holes alike
The free lunch was cooked way in advance. I had a patty melt, the bread was saturated in oil, could not eat it. The course was very good, getting ready to overseed, but still playable. The starter inside where you pay could be a little more friendly. Overall it was a fun day.
Circling the drain?
This used to be our favorite Oro Valley course. But it is sadly not being maintained. Weeds are growing on the 17th tee, the greens are bumpy, the restaurant has lost its liquor license and has about 8 items on the menu, several of which are not actually available. Carts need maintenance. On course washrooms are closed. Looks like management isn't spending a dime it doesn't have to.
Vistoso!
I have played this course about 6 times this year.
A very good test!
The course is in seasonal grass transition do not know if it will be over seeded.
The greens need to be rolled very bumpy!
Enjoyable time with my partners!
A lot of construction going on in the back nine spoiled the serenity of the round. Great views of course!

course stunk
I know that they are getting ready to over seed but the course was very bad, greens were really bad.
Windmills and clowns?
Tried this course because of a great Golf Now rate. Conditions were pretty spotty, but that's really no fault of the course at this time of year. Lots of bare spots, hard as rock bunkers and bunged up greens. (For some reason the members here don't like to bend down and fix their ball marks.)
I was really disappointed with the playing experience. It's a tricked up course, with forced carries and blind shots. That's fine, but there were no hole layouts on the scorecard and very occasional yardage marks on the fairways. Most of the time I had no idea how far I had to the various waste areas, hazards, and the green itself. In general, I guess this would be classifiesd as a "members' course." That is, "if you have to ask you don't belong here." Not my favolrite golf experience of the summer by a long shot.
Good layout
Our only issue is the course is over grown and you can't see fairways or greens on many holes.
Nice urban course
Located in beautiful Oro Valley, nw of Tucson, Rancho Vistoso Golf Course has gorgeous views of the Catalina Mts. and provides enough challenge to make it a fun golf adventure. Summer tee times are very economical if you are up for a little heat.
