The drought has hit this muni hard
The city is clearly not giving the course enough water. There are brown patches everywhere, including landing areas in the fairways. The greens bases felt firm, but had a lot of soft spots ; the surfaces were choppy.
Slow pace with a Tournament playing ahead of us.
There are two five men team playing ahead of us and it took us wating for 10 minutes every hole before we can tee off. Five and a half hour round is too long for two people. Otherwise the course is good and challenging. There are so many geese and lots of droppings around like a obstacle course.
Under Construction on South Course- Don't Bother
Dirt piles everywhere. Had to wait 30+ minutes for carts to come back before tee off. 25 minutes behind tee time, looked like they let a walk up, without a reservation before us. Horrible conditions for the money. $45 a player, when they should be closed for construction. Fairways are dirt and bounce anyway they please. As a golfer, Please dont waste your time and money on this course. I'm not one to write a bad review, but wait till the course is finished to play.
Great track
Great course yet over watered and greens need attention.
Course and Facilities
The greens need a frequent roller treatment as there are too many little humps due to balls landing on them.
Cleanliness is lacking badly. Toilets located on the course itself are a health hazard. They need to be thoroughly cleaned out. One of the toilets has feces piled up because water does not run so one cannot flush. Another needs the water shut off valve replaced because it's almost impossible to shut off the water which is not helpful during this drought,
Finally something needs to be done about the excessive slime in the creeks and waterways. The stench is terrible and it spoils one's concentration. You want to move away asap..
Other than these cleanliness-related issues everything else is fine.
Love your local
Great flat easy to play course with some challenges over water. The only down side are the number of wild geese and the resultant excrement and smell on a few holes.
Fun course
I had a great time playing this course.
The course are in good conditions , and the pace was fair. I would love to return, and also recommend my friends to play there. Had a great time.
push cart single
paired w/ an excellent golfer. weather outstanding. challenging but not long course. breeze/wind a factor. golfed here a lot over the years. very much recommend. food / beverages are plenty good. pleasing golfing atmosphere. locals are proud of the courses. definitely worth playing.
Thanks
got me out earlier than my original tee time THANKS :)
sand on greens
Course was in above average shape. Pace of play 3 hours. Greens had top dressing of sand not punched.
Best in years
Have played this course many times over the years. First round played this year and I must say that I was very impressed with the course conditions. For a public course that gets a lot of use, the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. The greens were smooth and fast. The rough was also fairly consistent and challenging. The annual Commuters Tournament held last weekend and next is the likely reason why the course is in such great shape. Get out and play while these conditions last!
Course in great shape
The greens on the Earl Fry North course are smooth and fast. They always roll great around the time of the Commuters tournament. Fairways are good and recovering from the dry winter. The only negative thing I noticed on the North was the lack of sand in the bunkers.
Good price for an averave course
Course's fairways were nicely trimmed, wish they would have managed the tee boxes a lot better, tons of divots and not well managed. Also the greens were nothing to brag about. But you get what you pay for, also the foursome ahead of me was brutally slow. Other than its was a good experience
great condition
I was very pleased with this course. Clean. Good greens.
Worst course I've played in the East Bay
Terrible course. I played it giving it the benefit of the doubt, I should have listened. A lot of brown grass, ALOT. Bunch of dead grass and mud. Hard/Firm ground everywhere. Looked like the greens were painted green. Tee boxes were terrible, leaves and branches everywhere. Probably the worst course I have played in the East Bay..... Seriously looked like we were playing in the desert.
BEST TIMES PLAYED HERE
I PLAYED THIS COURSE WITH MY UNCLE 10 YEARS AGO WITH MY UNCLE,I HAD THE BEST TIMES PLAYIN HERE WITH HIM, AND NOW HE PASSED ON AND IM KEEPING OUR MEMORIES ALIVE,GREAT GREENS,FAIRWAYS AND BUNKERS
Moderate difficulty, good driving range, decent restaurant and pro shop.
Last time I payed there were two groups of 6 people ahead of us and our round was way too long. I wish they course staff will keep an eye on this situations. That way the overall experience will be much better.
Fun track
Played today for the first time in about 8 years. Noticed they have completely redone the driving range. It's beautiful. (don't believe they offer hitting off grass but hey the mats were level and new)
The course is in good condition. Tee boxes are all pretty level and divot free. Even the traps were above par in my book. The greens were VERY soft. Despite this and the amount of play this course gets, they ran VERY true and smooth, no complaints. The wind gets up some in the afternoons but the course itself plays short so only crosswinds on approach shots had much affect on play or fun.
Staff was helpful and friendly.
The course is tree lined with many doglegs. There are some holes with water in play. Playing from the back tee's the course is short but surprisingly it makes you think a lot. It's definitely not a cookie cutter course where all the holes look alike. With all the doglegs and direction changes it keeps your interest from 1 to 18 easily. Your gonna need a draw and a fade to get around the way it's intended but it's fun!
There is only 1 drawback to this course. The fairways and areas around all greens have been overrun by crabgrass. From the fairway it doesn't have much affect. Chipping around greens however is tricky. The closely mowed areas remind me very much of astro turf and the longer rough can be really sticky. I suppose if you played often you would learn and get used to it, really need speed to get through a short chip shot so distance control is a challenge.
Overall I recommend this course to anyone. Really fun track.
(if they miraculously were able to eradicate that crabgrass even I wouldn't be able to find a shortcoming here)
Course is in great shape
Fair greens, good tee boxes, nice fairways..................................................................................
