Great course
My only complaint on this course is the irregularity of the sand traps. From dirt to clay to real sand, you never know what it's going to be. Other than that very well maintained, exceptional pace of play and priced right if you find an online or clubhouse deal.
This course is very good.
Most of people can enjoy this beautiful golf course and staff are very kind and working hard.
Generous fairways, with plenty of room for error.
The course was in great condition (considering the amount of flooding experienced). With well maintained fairways and greens, play was exciting yet had its challenges (soft grounds, windy, cool and did I mention water hazards :]) Overall, play this course and you will be moderately challenged and delighted.
Early
Played this course quite a few times. It is early but sand needs attention and fairways need some work. Will try again later this year.
Good share for early on
The course wasn't as soggy as I thought it might be, so lies in the fairways were good. Greens had been rolled so they rolled well just slow. This course is a hidden little gem that can be had for very reasonable prices provided you're willing to take a little drive.
Worth the trip
White Tail Ridge is about a 45 minute drive from the La Grange area and well worth the trip. Even in mid-November the course is in great shape. I play most of my rounds during the week, so I can't vouch for pace of play on a weekend at peak season, but the couple times I played here this year I zipped right through. Tip: From the Blue tees you need to carry the ball a LONG way over trouble on some holes. If you can't hit a 200 yard drive, play from the Gold. If you don't you will rack up lost ball penalties. You've been warned!
Favorite
Have always enjoyed this course since the first time I played it. Great food in restaurant as well.
good course-well maintained
Great deal on golf now -not sure I would pay full fare to play -if the wind is blowing this can be a difficult course to play. Greens were well maintained fairways showed late season play but were overall in good shape.
Poor communication
Course was in pretty good condition but they had top dressed the greens on the back nine which we were not aware - need to let you know when you make tee time.
Nice Course, but a little pricey
Played this course many times and generally like it due to layout, pace of play and over all level of challenge. The greens could use a little attention, as it seems people don't repair ball marks as they should. Some of the tee boxes are close to green's and have had several close calls while on the tee box (from someone inbound at the green from last hole). For being so rural I feel like the price should be 10 to 20$ lower but not so expensive it will steer me away from playing it. Overall good course, great range, putting green and first tee set up!
Awesome Layout!
This course has something for everyone. Links style on the front, you need to place your ball in the right spots to go at the pin. More elevation changes on the back, nice change of pace. The greens were quick, but true. Really well maintained course. Would definitely play again.
Nice atmosphere out in the country.
Played through a Golfnow green fee and lunch special. Nice conditioned course. Pace of play was great. Really only small complaint was the speed of the greens. The course would be awsome if the greens were rolling a foot faster. Would definately go back to play this course.
Worth The Drive!
Fun and challenging. In great shape despite the lack of moisture. First time @ Whitetail.
Need to have yardage markers on ALL tee boxes on the Par 3's for the scorecard did not match the actual distance this day.
Wanted to Love...
But just couldn't. Though this track has potential; beautiful surroundings and good design, they just missed some critical elements.
Layout: 5 - Really a fun course. Felt interesting/different throughout.
Condition: 3 - Tee boxes and fairways in really good shape. Bunkers, very poor, terrible. Greens, could have been nice but there were so many ball marks that it made play difficult at times. And the speed of the greens? Too slow.
Staff: 3.5 - Okay, but not terribly welcoming.
Beverage: 4 - Only two water coolers that I saw on course. Not enough for a 90+ degree day. Bev carts were around on the front 9, not too evident on the back.
Value: 3 - I didn't feel like the course was worth the 65 bucks that I paid for a Sunday round.
Overall: 3/3.5 - Some good and some not so good.
This course could be really nice. Unfortunately, the condition of the greens and bunkers made too great of a negative impact. Hope they make the effort to clean it up because it could be an area favorite.
Whitetail Ridge
Course was in good shape, greens and fairways were nice. 2nd time played here - the hidden water was not a factor. Fellow golfers need to fillin divots and repair ball marks. The sand traps were pretty hard - need more sand in traps. Food in upstairs restaurant was real good.
Really nice course.
Had not played here for 3 years. Sorry I waited so long. This is a great layout, very challenging. Keeps you thinking...Well worth $30.
Nice course but slow play
Played this course a few times. Each time the course was overbooked resulting in delays and slow play. Good for the $ though.
True Hidden Gem
A beautiful but irritatingly challenging course. Right in the middle of nowhere of a drive along corn plantations, here comes a hidden gem of a golf course. Picture perfect, pristine condition and your choice of 4 tee boxes. We played blue tees and t'was still very challenging.
Bring a lot of extra balls for you will really be tempted to try hitting your longest drives with their picturesque fairways. I'll definitely come back when I see another one on "Hot Deals".
Terrific golf course & beautiful scenery.
Other than the slow pace of play due to a small outing that teed off ahead of us and the fact that the greens were a bit slow, I loved the course and the experience. I'd rank Whitetail Ridge right up there with Bowes Creek and Blackstone as one of my favorites in the Chicago West area.
Beautiful course-Well Maintained
I thoroughly enjoyed my first time at WhiteTail Ridge. I signed up as a single and as I checked in with the courteous staff I was told I was by myself. I get to the tee and off I went. The fairways and greens were very nice. The whole layout of the course made it very enjoyable to play and the par 3's overall were some of the nicest I have seen. I had 2 foursomes in front of me that were aware of golf etiquette and allowed me to play through. I didn't even have to ask. I got through my round in 2 hours. I typically shoot around 100 and shot a 95. The fairways are there for you to hit if you are a high handdicapper. I lost only two balls both on par 3's. The cart girl Allison was also very nice and she seemed to enjoy working at the course. All in all, I would definitely come back to play. I had a great experience.
