Still CRAAAAP
This course is just horrible. I keep wanting to give it another try, but it just sucks. The grounds guy's will ride their mowers and equipment right in front of you, or beside you with absolutely no regard.
You're very lucky SALT, that I didn't get on video what I was trying to get of two of your grounds keepers wrestling each other in a sand bunker. Right in front of my buddies approach shot. (RIDICULOUS)!!
Wont be back, so the good news is, this will be my last review.
Nobody in control....
The Range and Course was very dry, however San Diego just had a heavy rain storm a week prior. Had to check in twice because nobody was calling anyone to the tee. Golfers went out on there own. Very little sand in the traps, just very poor conditions on the course. Many dirt spots in the fairways, greens not cared for, not how I remembered the course about two years ago. Five and a half hour round, got behind a group of 7 on hole 14 and followed them to 18. I hope things will change because this is a fun course. I would also like to think I lost my Range Finder while I was in the Club House on the turn.
Has potential
Although you can get a good deal on this course, it is in rough condition being lots of weeds, bare spots, etc. There are good views and the layout ok but lots of backup on the pace of play. Greens weren't to bad. There is no bag drop and you need to drag your bags through a slippery tiled breeze way. Check in was functional. Your paid, start when you want. Yeah but can you direct people to where the first tee at least?? And where are the carts etc? Also there is only one bathroom on the course sand it's locked and your cart key won't open it!!! Not pleased. Luckily we played with a very nice regular which made it a bit enjoyable.
We do not recommend this course!
No Starter, no marshals. Two twosomes plus a 12:00 noon foursome were ahead of us and still waiting to tee off at our 12:18pm tee time. Course was not in good shape. Some landscaping type work was being completed by crews on the first few holes (spreading bark, digging up sand bunkers, tractors). Pace of play was painful and just got slower. We gave up after 8 holes.
Directions to the course through the GolfNow site direct use of Highway 125 for three miles south of Highway 54. This is a toll road with a $2.50 fee (by credit card while standing outside the car on the highway off/on ramp) both ways.
'17 MLK Day Golf
Fantastic value for 18-holes & cart especially for a holiday. With the recent winter rains and colder season the fairways and rough were soggy (understandable after the rain). There were a few bunkers "ground under repair" but they didn't affect my play (did not hit into). I plan on coming back regularly. I really enjoyed my experience. Thank you Salt Creek Golf Club and GolfNow. #cfgolfore
Be Aware
Course is in rough shape. Many of the bunkers are "closed", waiting for new sand, and playing ground under repair. Tee boxes, fairways in sketchy condition. Greens just average. Players don't appear to be helping. Saw and repaired lots of divots and ball marks on greens. Hope they can put some effort in the conditions, as it is an interesting lay out.
Slow playing
There was 5 some and 6 some's playing. We played 9 holes in 3 hours and went home.
SLOW play
One of my favorite courses, however, terribly slow play and never a marshall to move slow players along.
Noisy Round
Played early for n the morning with frost around school me of the greens. The greens were super fast, like putting on concrete, the fairways were just as fast. Great roll after landing, however, the ball could roll from one end of the faiway to the other. We had a grounds person racking the bunkers with a mower follow us for 15 holes! Did not stop or idle the equipment while we try to play. Other than that, is a good course, not very forgiving in the cold weather due to the extreme ball roll you get after a hit, but it was fun trying to play it.
Great Course, Awseome Staff, Great time
This is NOT an easy course, but a true challenge. Very enjoyable and a true test of skill , yet fun to play for any level. Staff is amazing and very helpful.
Great Greens
I love this courses lay out with the exception of a couple holes. The greens were very fast and rolled true. On the down side there are quite a few dry areas with no grass. Where I had bad lies. Also their bunkers were in very poor shape.
Good and Bad
The good: The course has potential to be an outstanding round, but normal conditions for San Diego are keeping it from reaching that potential. The course had every challenge you can expect, except for water. One hole requires you to carry water, but that's it. Fairways are 30 degrees to the left and right, and about a 6% downhill and uphill depending on the hole, which is great. Bunkers were just hard dirt, which was to be expected based on reviews. So I was happy with the course itself and staff.
The bad: we didn't have any cart service. I didn't even see a service cart, until I returned mine at the end of the round. Luckily, it was overcast and not too physically demanding. I.e. didn't need a lot of water. Had it been a normal SD weekend, I would have been extremely upset, and sweaty.
Overall, it was fun and I'd definitely play again.
WATER!!!!! SAND!!!!!!!
This place is still HORRIBLE! Haven't played here in a longtime because of course conditions, they have only become worse!! The bunkers have NO sand or under repair going on two years now. THIS COURSE is in desperate NEED of WATER!!!!!!
I really wish someone with money would purchase this course and make it as nice as it could be! Who ever owns this course now does the barebones minimum to get by and keep the doors open. ITS A REAL SHAME!
great course
no complaints here, this course is always great and wonderful to play at.
Great course and round
My friend and I played, and were paired with another pair. My friend rented clubs. Staff was very friendly and helpful. For the drought that SoCal has been having, the course was in pretty good shape, the greens were in nice shape and rolled true. The other pair had played this course before, and it helps to have local knowledge as there are some blind shots. Liked the layout and the views. One of the few links style courses in the area. Would play again. Really nice practice facilities.
The rates are reasonable.
The course has a good layout but the course conditions are not the best.
Needs attention
No sand in most of the bunkers and little grass on the fairways for years now. Greens are in good shape.
Golf
Like the concept of course. On the 9 hole my dad and I were making our approach shots to the green and as we get ready to hit here comes five kids in prom dresses walking across are green Little disappointed
Hi Thomas3146935,
Thank you for the feedback. We usually don't have any issues with interruptions on the course and will make sure to monitor for next time. See you soon!
