Verde River Golf & Social Club
About
Verde River Golf & Social Club (formerly known as Tegavah Golf Club and Vista Verde Golf Course) has a desert style layout that features panoramic views of Four Peaks, the Superstition Mountains, Weaver's Needle, and the Tonto National Forest. In addition to the scenery, the golf course also presents interesting challenges such as subtle contours and desert wasteland areas that guard the holes. The greens lead to generous landing areas that require precision and length. Although only one water hazard comes into play on one hole, there are several sand bunkers strategically situated throughout. Verde River Golf & Social Club offers five sets of teeboxes to offer suitable challenges for players of all skill levels and abilities.

Amazing service for a new course
Course will take time to mature, but the basics are there. Staff was incredible, pro met us at our car as we left to verify that we were happy with the experience. Not as far out as I anticipated, about 15 minutes from Troon N.
Tricky greens
Overall, the course was in good shape, some of the greens were difficult to read. It was very scenic and worth the extra drive.
Scenic and Difficult Track
Maybe the convoluted entrance to Tegavah (a product of a huge construction project) gives you a clue to the facility: it's challenging, and it still feels very unfinished.
That's not to slight the course or the conditions. We found the fairways and greens generally in great shape, and there are plenty of tee choices. But this is a course for better golfers. There is desert everywhere for wayward shots, a number of forced carries, and very difficult greens (some quite large) that are often perched at the top of a rise and are almost all well-guarded by deep bunkers. My buddy mused that it would be hard to interest women in playing the course unless they were virtually scratch golfers.
The scenery of the Verde Valley, Four Peaks and all is terrific, but the course seems ramble all over the place, usually on dirt cart paths that sometimes are hard to follow from one tee box to the next, since signage is minimal.
Our foursome followed a twosome - seemed to be father and son - that was achingly slow, but no marshal was there to speed them up. Maybe he got lost along the way...
Bottom line: this is a scenic wonderland if you're new to desert golf, but it's long and difficult and requires a substantial drive for most people in the Phoenix area.
Finished in 3.5 hours
Was late arriving an wanted a bite to eat. Pro-shop said take your time. Great course and amazing vista of the mountains. Would play again! Only 30 mins from Scottsdale.
New place
I really liked the course lay out. fairly new course with much up side. Good luck
Well worth the drive
This was the best golf course we played in our 5 day golf trip. It is somewhat hidden away but well worth the trip. It will be a must play for us when we return next year. My only complaint is that our 4 some had a 2:02 tee time and the starter let a 2 some playing a replay cut in front of us off the 1st tee. It was hit and wait the entire round. We just got 18 in. If we had to play one more hole we wouldn't have finished. If you can get on you should play it
North Scottsdale Favorite
We have been visiting this area for a few years now, and I've seen Tegavah's popularity grow. This is a very good golf course in an area with many excellent (high-priced) and much heralded courses. Visit Tegavah if you love golf and you won't be disappointed. The clubhouse facility is modest, the practice area is good, and the golf course is a well maintained, interesting layout, with exceptional views of the Tonto Verde Mountains.
fIRST TIME
COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE. CART PATHS STILL NEED WORK AND DIRECTIONS TO NEXT HOLE.
Great value beautiful views
Enjoyed our round. Challenging but open fairways. Greens were really interesting as well as slopes. Would recommend the course.
Great time.
It was about a 45 minute drive from we were staying (Old Town Scottsdale), and the place is under construction so some of the cart paths are under construction. And there is no permanent clubhouse. That said it is a wonderful golf course. Amazing views of the mountains. Well maintained and while challenging, isn't unfair.
Spectacular views, gret course
The course layout is terrific and the mountain views are amazing. Friendly staff. Pace of play was good--18 holes in 4 hours.
Beauty In the Desert
Very nice, challenging course. Winds through the desert with wonderful views of Four Peaks & other mountains. I was paired with a member so had a good idea where to hit the ball. You'll need help if it's your first time.
Hard to find
Had a nice round here after we finally found it; entrance was not well marked, and just made it before tee time. Course is in real estate development with construction along the fairways. Several bare spots in the fairways but over all condition was OK. Great desert views.
Great value and worth the drive
Reminded me of WeKoPa. Maybe a little less challenging but still can test any game. Perfect fairways and greens. Good practice facility but temporary clubhouse for now.
1st but not last time here
Course conditions were excellent and we played in 4 hr even with a full tee sheet. A good mix of holes with several tee options made it fun for the lower and higher handicappers in our group. Would definitely recommend to other and be back soon to play again.
Excellent course
Most enjoyable, interesting terrain, beautiful views, challenging.
Off the beaten path but worth the trip
The course is beautiful valley overlooked by lush mountains....the scenery was gorgeous. The course itself was fun, with very very few trees and generous landing areas . We played on a very breezy day , and whether you were playing upwind or downwind made a Huge difference in the relative difficulty of the hole. For example, On the opening 390 yd hole, I had 65 yards to the green with my second shot, while on a 590 yard Par 5, I hit driver, 3 wood and 3 iron and was still short of the green. The course conditions were average, the rough was brown and dry, and it played firm and fast.
Because the adjoining real estate development has not yet taken off, The course still has the feel of a new or incomplete development, with a trailer clubhouse and several sections of cart path that are unpaved. But tee to green, conditions were acceptable.
Overall, it was worth the trip , and presented a fun challenge in a beautiful setting.
Great value
With the expensive costs of Scottsdale courses in February, this is a great course that is only 15 mins outside of north Scottsdale. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the course was and the temporary club house. Great course for the dollar. Would come back again.
Good conditions, challenging, great scenery
Played this course for the first time in Feb with some buddies. It's a bit of a drive to get there depending on where you are staying but the scenery on the drive and on the course is fantastic. The course was in good shape all around except for a few fairways that were wet and mushy in spots due to overwatering. The course is visually intimidating with large, deep bunkers in the fairways and around the greens. We also found it difficult at times to determine where to hit our tee shots even though they give you a course guide and we had our own GPS's - quite a few desert washes cutting through the fairways and some partially blind tee shots. A lot of the greens are raised and somewhat crowned which made it tough on some holes to tell the size & shape of the greens and where to hit your approach shots - if you missed the green you were faced with a tough up & down in a lot of cases. I think if you played this course more often you would become familiar with the nuances and really enjoy the design of the course. Our weekday morning round seemed a bit slow at just over 4.5 hours but that may have been due to a couple slow groups in front of us. We booked directly on their website which had better rates than other online booking sites and played it for under $100 in prime time. Nice course, challenging, good shape, great scenery - would play it again.
Excellent Challenge
An excellent and challenging golf course easily in PHX top 10 publics. Plays VERY fair despite it's difficulty. No gimmicks or illusions, just great golf right in front of you. Holes are varied and arranged nicely for scoring. Some great birdie holes and some extremely difficult and lengthy Par 5's. Overall this is a golfer's golf course to which I will gladly award a full five stars when the 25,000 square foot clubhouse (not yet in existence) is open and operational.
