Terrible customer service
I played this course several weeks ago and they overcharged my card. It took me several days of calling to be able to talk to someone that could help. He gave me a credit and said it would be waiting on me for the next round. Well I went back and nobody knew anything about it. Also nobody could help me with it. I never have received my money. Terrible customer service.
challenging
The course does not get enough credit for the conditions or the quality of the layout. I recommend giving in another try. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
On Its Way Back
It was good to see Durham Lakes is on its way back. The greens were improved considerably since I last played some 3-4 months ago. There is still some work needed supporting some fairways and the sprinkler system to keep them healthier where a few had tight lies in the meat of the fairway. Overall, it was good to see Durham coming back.
Greens
The greens are in the best shape I've seen them in. It's been a while but I think it's back up and coming.
Durhan Lakes on the mend
The guys at Durham Lakes have really been working hard. The greens have never been this good.Fairways are filling in.They have really cut back brush and cleaned cart paths. This has always been a great layout. I plan on returning soon!
Greens
They have been doing a good job on getting the greens back in shape.
Will never go back again
Me and a couple of friends went to play golf here and when we were halfway though the first nine they dumped sand on the greens infront of us and we were never told that they were going to do that before we headed out. So instead of us playing the back we went inside and told the proshop what happened and asked for our money back for nine holes and they started getting mad and actually insulted our game saying if we were good players then it shouldn't matter, which does make since, and that we can't complain about every little thing. That was the only thing we complained about and it wasn't just a little sand either. I've never been so insulted on the golf course by staff in my life and will never go back again.
Getting Better
This course has come a long way in the last 3 months. The GM and Greens Supervisor along with the rest of the staff are superior at what they do. The steady improvement can be seen not only in the clubhouse and other facilities but also the greens and the fairways. The over brush has been cleared and the course played extremely well. I cannot say how impressed I am with the greens because they are super. Very much worth the money!
This course needs a lot of work...
Will not be back this year, might be playable mid next year if investments and maintenance are supplied.
Nice track but needs carry
Very nice staff working hard to improve thus course with limited resources. The layout is a nice venue of wooded and pond lined holes. It needs some attention, especially on and around the greens. For the price though I would give it a try.
Durham Lakes coming back
New management, recently out of receivership. Don't let the first fairway convince you that this course is in really bad shape. Course is in rough shape here and there, but coming back. New pro is working hard to improve the course. Played here several years ago--still a difficult course, glad to see it improving. Course winds through the subdivision, but very few houses impinge on the views.
Great layout; terrible conditions
Durham Lakes has one of the best tracks in Georgia. But more investments are needed to care for the tee boxes, fairways, and greens.
This course
I played this course years ago and it was fabulous. Wanted to play it again, so booked me a tee time and headed that way. The course was in fair condition and I was disappointed at how they had let the course go. This is a beautiful and difficult layout but the course needs some TLC. Would love to see someone come in and love this course back to its potential.
Awful don't go!!!
Showed up 20 mins early like they said on their website where I booked the tee time for 7:30a. Nobody showed up until right before 8a. The course had a great layout but the fairway was dirt and the greens were the worst I've ever played on. Don't go!!!
Open area
I like the course they did some work on the greens the manager gave us $10 off because of it . Good customer business .
Please advise customer of course condition.
This course was in terrible condition, beginning with the first fairways. No permanent yardage markers, several patches of damage grass, divots not being repaired. The worst part was the green had been aerated , with hole plugs remaining on the green. This is no way to treat paying customers. This was a waste of money. The club should have explained the course condition, and offered the customers an option to play or not to play.
Nice challenging course
I always enjoy playing Durham Lakes. Greens a little hairy due to very hot weather but still fun.
Needs improvement
Like the layout, however deferred maintenance is evident on greens, fairways, bunkers and the grounds in general. The geeens did putt well.
Don't waste your money
An absolutely awful course at this time. Forget the layout, the condition of every aspect of the course is terrible. The teebox is nothing but sand and uncut grass, the fairways are as hard as concrete while filled with dirt and actually pose as a threat to hit than a luxury, and the greens are destroyed with ball marks and patches of missing grass filled with hard mud for stretches that range up to 30 square feet making most putts impossible without a lot of luck. There was not a cart girl to be seen until the 16 hole and we started our round at 9:30. Plus in mid 90's Georgia heat I would expect to find cold water throughout the course but this was not the case. There wasn't a water station until the latter of the back nine which was luke warm assuming it was from the day before. This was truly my first non-enjoyable experience with golf and I even had a fairly decent round shooting at an even 80. I chose to select the somewhat challenging option for course difficulty due to the terrible conditions the course was in making it much more difficult in the wrong ways.
This is an honest review and I hope others don't make my mistake in selecting this course for your round... the hot deal isn't even worth the frustration you will receive from this course.
Great for what we paid
I paid $10 + Fees for my round (with cart) and I'll say that it was a great value for that price. I wouldn't have paid much more though.
Course: the course overall was in decent condition. Greens were spotty and long, but definitely playable. Bunkers were terrible--hard sand, somewhat rocky and trashed. Fairways were also a bit spotty but playable. Tee boxes were sandy, but also playable.
Facilities: The pro shop was small but adequate and had everything I needed. The staff was just one person who was friendly, albeit not very professional and prompt with assistance. The course had porta-pottys on a few random holes, which was fine for me because I'm a guy, but I don't think female golfers would have been as comfortable.
Difficulty: The course played very difficult. I'm not a great golfer--bogey or worse, and I haven't played a lot. But this course was very challenging even for my partner who is a par golfer. It keeps you focused and thinking about the next shot.
CONS: The practice green was awful, so don't plan on getting much out of that. The driving range was in awful shape and looked like a giant dump overall. Don't plan on cleaning your balls on the course--all of the ball cleaners had no water or towels. Thirsty? Too bad--no drink carts or water in the water stations on the course. If there was any water, it was hot and questionable, so drink at your own risk.
Overall: If you can catch this course with a good special I'd recommend giving it a shot. I would by no means pay full price to pay here unless they drastically improved the conditions. Keep in mind that I don't mind bad conditions because I don't play well enough for them to affect me, but this course had some bad spots to it that even I didn't like. Facilities are poor, so plan/pack ahead for yourself as far as drinks and things go. Last thing to note--there are no maps! None on the scorecard, so it's a shot in the dark as far as the course goes if you've never played before. It's quiet--we were the only people there until the 15th hole when someone caught up to us finally, so you can take your time.
