The course layout has some challenging holes with risk/reward.The harder ground allowed for further carries. It was best to aim short of the green, so the ball would roll or bounce on,since the green would not hold arcing shots.
One of London's Best Public Courses
We golfed on a Monday in late May and the course was quiet. While it had rained heavily the night before and it was cart path only, the course was in very good shape. While the layout is challenging, it offers something to satisfy all levels of golfers. Will definitely be back again this golf season.
Look out Marshal
On 12 the marshal came rolling across the fairway in front of my friends drive. Forcing him to back off his ball and reset. Then by the end of the hole he asks us to speed up? C'mon man.
Nonetheless he was at least friendly about it but I thought it was unnecessary as we finished our round at 4 hrs. I may not be an expert on pace of play but that seems pretty standard for a foursome of bogey average golflers.
That includes a stop after nine for beer, which wasnt priced properly, and snacks. And we did not hold anyone up.
As far as the course goes its pretty amazing and challenging. I will be back later this summer to tackle it for revenge. Hope for a little less hastle from staff.
This is definitely a great course. This time of year it's always a little wet.
For some reason though the greens are quite slow.
I would still recommend this track though, just such a great layout.
Be prepared to wait!!
When I got there they told me the driving range was closed. They sent me to crumlin creek to hit balls. When I got back the owner and 11 friends jumped in front of me and I played 6 holes in 2 hours. I drove back to the clubhouse and left and vowed I would never go back.
Cold day on the course
The course was in decent shape for the time of the year. it was a cool windy day. Thankfully it did not rain. The off-course amenities would have been rated average, however it was a slow day at the course and did not have the concession open. The pace of play was excellent because of the weather and not many people on the course.
Staff were friendly as always.
Well laid out
I am definitely going to play this course again. Incredibly scenic, the architecture provides a very smartly laid out track. Pace was very slow at times but I didn't care, I was enjoying the company of my dad and two pleasant strangers with great attitudes. When playing in November, it's just not about the score. It played long but the forward tees were generous which I like for those who need a head start of the tee. Greens are really tricky. I could have sworn I had a few putts break up hill. You have to circle the whole when reading. We didn't, but again-November. Hope to go back next year and give it the game it deserves.
Hi Roland7144496,

Great Day!
Awesome day for golf...warm and slightly overcast.."Cart Path only" rule lifted just before I teed off , and rightfully so as the course was dry enough.. No Deer sightings today, (have seen deer on several occasions at this course)..All around good day... Just happy to be playing at this time of year..
Hello u000004847859,
Thank you so much for your five star rating of our golf course. We appreciate you choosing to play at Forest City National and we can't wait to see you back on the course soon!

Beautiful layout
This course can satisfy the needs of anyone from novice to veteran. Numerous tee positions make it possible to play to your level. There are quite a number of interesting doglegs and several elevation changes. The courses greatest feature is the greens. All are big and there isn't a flat spot on one of them; and there in great condition. I will definitely return.
Beautiful course
Play this course weekly, it is a challenging but also a picturesque course. The fair ways are lush and green with great greens. Surrounded by trees and the lake and often will see deer in the wooded areas. Would recommend this course to anyone. Beautiful clubhouse as well.
Great Course on a Great Day
We teed off on time with the pleasant starter wishing us a good round. The course was in very good shape with the greens running fast and true. The fairways were well maintained as were the entire grounds except for bumpy and pot-holed cart paths here and there. There was some indication of fall with leaves on a few of the greens, but, alas...October! We had a very enjoyable round, a little on the slow side, but, with patience, we had a good day. We would sure recommend this course for play at all levels of ability. Our day was a balmy 22C and perfect.
Pace of Play is ALWAYS a problem here
I've made the 2 hr drive to play at this course 4 times this year, and EVERY time our group has been delayed due to slow play. (May 23x2, Sept 19, and Oct 8)
Today's tee time was 1:10pm and we putted out on #18 at 6:13pm. FIVE HOURS OF GOLF ! ! ! Never seen a MARSHALL all day, but saw the cart girl x3. All the carts have GPS on them, so from the Pro-Shop you can see who's holding up 3 groups at a time, yet nothing is done about it.
You have a problem, multiple people have advised you of it, now it's up to you to decide if you want to do something about it. Stop sending out groups 8 minutes apart, when you know you have a problem. Get a MARSHALL who knows what they're doing, and give them the authority to resolve issues onsite. Patrol the course, find the gap and the group behind the gap, and see if they're holding up anyone behind them. If so, give the Marshall the authority to force the sloths to skip a hole, or allow the waiting groups to play-through. Decide whether you want 1 upset slow group who's been forced to skip a hole, or allow others to play through, or you want (I've counted 3 groups today) 3 groups disgruntled over slow play and 5 hour rounds of golf. Market research on customer satisfaction has proven than someone who experiences bad customer service, will share their story with at least 4 other people, whereas someone who has had a positive experience typically only tells 1 other person.
I've already posted my experience on social media for all my fellow golfing buddies to read, and I can assure you, that I have not recommended they visit your course unless they are fully prepared to play a hole of golf, and then sit for 12 minutes in their cart, and repeat for at least 5 hours.
Resort Quality Course
Forest City National is one of the two best public courses in the London area. The challenging layout is well maintained and plays fair. Plenty of high-quality sand and greens that will test you. The course has an excellent practice facility with warm-up balls included in the price. Great deals can be found on-line and the weekday senior rate is a real bargain. The only noteworthy downsides are the often slow-pace of play (its a popular course) and noise from the airport.
I would give it 4 1/2 stars, but what is FCN ACTUALLY going to do to speed up play?
I received an email from FCN today, asking for a review of their course. Since my buddies and I have played this course 2-3 times a year for the past few years and have never reviewed it, I thought it was the least I could do.
Although I live more than an hour away, I love the course and will drive there to play it. It is a great track, with some very scenic views! Most holes are laid out to challenge all golfers, no matter the skill level. Maintenance of the course is excellent. With the exception of one season, the greens have always been great!
The price is excellent, considering you get a cart with GPS and range balls included. And, the practice area is great!
Staff in the proshop are average, but they do not make me feel welcome. A smile and "thanks for coming" attitude would be nice. The starters and bar cart ladies have all been great!
The only really bad thing about this course, is that, although my buddies and I are decent, rule-respecting golfers, we have yet to play a round in under 5+ hours! We always seem to get slowed up on the back nine. Two hours on the front makes the 3 hours on the back even worse to put up with. The only marshalls that I have seen seem to be on the look out for guys not obeying the cart signs and have no interest in maintaining a good pace of play. This course should be played in 4 to 4 hours and 15 minutes max. Other than pace of play, this is a 5 star course.
I have checked out a number of the earlier reviews and notice that this concern has come up time and time again, but NEVER addressed by management's replies. I would like to know, specifically, what is management going to do to make the pace more enjoyable. I've seen lots of suggestions in the reviews, but no concerted effort has been made to get the pace to what it should be. If this one small thing can be improved, I'm sure there will be many more 5 star reviews and a lot more happy, satisfied golfers coming off the 18th green with more time to spend more money on food and beverage in your beautiful clubhouse!
It seems to be a similar response to the others regarding pace of play. It is not the time on the tee that is the problem, when you can play the front nine in 2 hours and then the back takes you 3 hours or more. I am not heartened by the sentence "This season will be no different." It may be time to give up on FCN.
Nice Track
I always love to play this course. It has very challenging approaches due to the mostly elevated greens. Just a nice layout and very pretty.
Hi "uPXQR6191PX" Thank you so much for the great review! We appreciate you taking the time to leave us such an excellent compliment. Don't forget to get your last few rounds in with us before the season is over.
crowded t times
Using our prepaid golf fees requiring us to play after 3PM on a weekend. We had a 3:02 T off there were at least 8 power carts ahead of us . The starter was letting people go approx. every 5 minutes . It gets dark at 730. There was no way we were getting 18 holes in as we paid for . We did a very slow front 9 . The back 9 was clogged . We started on the front 9 again and got 3 holes done before it was too dark to play on. My complaint is that you booked many more golfers than you should have knowing full well that they would not get what they paid for. Why ?
Sorry FCMgmt, but you say that 8 minute tee times is AVERAGE, but the fact is that your clientelle is not AVERAGE. I have made the 2 hr drive to golf at your course for a total of 4 rounds of golf this summer, and each and EVERY TIME, I always have to wait due to slow play.
You need to find a solution, and IMPLEMENT it. Whether that is a legitimate Marshall with the authority to force players to skip a hole, or allow faster groups to play though, or even make groups tee off from the appropriate tee boxes based on their skill level. But 5 hrs rounds of golf are what are killing this game.
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to bring this situation to our attention. You are correct, the UnderPar ticket that you purchased will only let you play after 3pm after the initial redemption period is over. The reason for the after 3pm restriction is that the purchase price of your ticket corresponds to the same rate on our tee sheet after 3pm, because we are still in our prime time rates. We do recognize that the daylight hours are starting to get shorter each day and that completing 18 holes after 3pm is not usually feasible this time of year. While individuals had the opportunity to use the ticket through the longest days of the year they are unlikely to complete all holes if they waited this long to use the voucher due to the shorter day light hours this time of year.
At Forest City National Golf Club we book tee times every 8 minutes as this has proven to allow for an adequate average pace of play through the 18 hole course. We would never intentionally try to push a large number of people out before your tee time to try and prevent you from completing your 18 holes. 3pm begins our reduced twilight rate meaning golfers can complete as many of the 18 holes as they can before dusk. By purchasing a reduced tee time after 3pm, golfers are aware that they are not likely to complete all 18 holes; however that inability is reflected by the cheaper twilight rate.
We do apologize that you experienced slow play which prevented you from completing all 18 holes. We hope that your next visit to Forest City National will be a more rewarding experience.
FCN Management
One of the greats for the area
This is one of my 3 'go-to' courses that I frequent all the time. This course really catches my eye on layout and how it plays. I love playing this course and would recommend it to anyone.
All that great stuff aside, they really need to start putting some effort into bringing it back to what it once was.
1) The sand traps have about 1/2" of sand and then hard pan clay - unless you're lucky enough to get it in the front edge.
2) Some of the greens have taken a beating but they have improved over last year even with the drought we had.
3)The range balls absolutely suck. Buying used balls was a step-up from the balls you had been using but they still hit like rocks.
Great Course but Over Booked.
The price was reasonable and the course in nice shape - but I hate 5 hour rounds.
Hi "can1kxo" We appreciate your honest feedback. We will definitely take a look into this issue and come up with a solution moving forward. We appreciate you making us aware of any pace of play issues as we look to resolve this.
Avoid during an Air-Show
I've made the 2 hr drive to play here in the past, and I've experienced the same thing the past 3 times. HORRIBLY SLOW PLAY on a beautifully maintained course.
Pro's:
> the condition of the course (fairways, penalizing rough, greens, bunkers)
> the location (beautiful scenery, from woodlands, to overlooking the lake). very peaceful.
> I can see why The Golf Channel's Canadian Amateur Tour plays here year after year.
Con's:
> PACE OF PLAY. This is not the first time this has happened. The front 9 was fine, we played without delay, but as soon as we made the turn - disaster. There were two groups on #10, waiting for a group to hit their approach shot. Where is the Marshall? Why does this happen so often at this course?
> ProShop Staff was misleading. He tried to tell me that teeing off after 3:00pm (in September) would be enough time to finish playing 18 holes. Glad I booked for 2:22pm, because we were forced to play #18 by teeing off in dusk, make our approach shots in the dark, and putt blind at 7:30. 5hrs for a round of golf :(
> Don't golf when there is an event at the airport. My group was told by traffic control officers on city streets, that they were not permitted to drive to the golf course, and would have to go around. When we made the :30 minute drive around Fanshawe Lake, officer #2, said the road was closed, even though we could see the driveway to the golf course. We then had to return to point A, and plead with the officer to let us through. We arrived 2hr before our tee time, and due to the re-routes, walked from the car to the tee without a second to spare. Not the course's fault, but doesn't make for a pleasant golfing experience. Although watching a F-22 Raptor do aerial maneuvers a <500 ft overhead is quite impressive (and deafening).
Hi Ernest1975,
Thank you for your review! We are happy to know you enjoyed the conditions of our course. We hope to see you back soon!
Clearly the owners groups didnt get rushed like we did. And we finished 18 in 4hrs on the dot.
