A Great Course in Decline
Course is good but currently in poor condition. Tee boxes in need of water and maintenance, fairway OK bearing in mind the dry weather, grass growing in the bunkers and large brown patches on some greens. (Disease / water issues?)
It is going to take a lot of work to return it back to the quality course that I have enjoyed playing in the past.
Gatton on the hottest day of the year
The course played very well considering the conditions.
Had to treat bunkers as GUR due to lack of attention
and no rakes. The greens are tricky.
However, very disappointed at complete lack of some sort of buggy drinks/ food service given the heat on the day.
On the whole an enjoyable round.
Gatton Manor
Tight with lots of trees and water but good condition. Some picturesque holes which are deceptive and test your ability. Will play here again.
Very tactical course
I really enjoyed the round being a first timer. However, this is a course that requires proper management and is not obvious. The greens are small and very complicated.
Beautiful scenery overall.
Course in decent condition compared to many others
Its been a hot dry summer and many courses have been reduced to concrete-like surfaces, so to play off a more springy surface with decent amounts of grass was a real pleasure.
Friendly staff, well-organised and helpful on arrival. Despite the course starting busy it soon thinned out. Around the greens there were a few rough patches, due to the dry weather, but the greens, though difficult to gauge due to the undulations were in good order. The 6th hole has to be one of the most demanding in the area, especially if you dont know the layout, and the 17th is very long, even off the yellows. But a varied range of challenges throughout, making this a good course for a visit.
Parking and bar service both good.
First Time but hopefully not the last
We played on a Saturday early afternoon and after a good All Day Breakfast set off. The course is is good condition with QUICK smooth greens that were true. Some difficult tee shots caught us out and I would suggest a 'Pro Tip' sheet for 1st time players to keep up the pace of play. Lots of varied holes with some really nice par 3's to small greens over water! Par 5's were good and would play differently next time. Was impressed and only down side was we finished at 6.30pm and were looking forward to a cold Beer but the clubhouse was closed - hopefully next time.
Great Surrey course
Love the course. Set up to challenge all golfers while also offering opportunities for good scoring. Every hole has a challenge and while there are good scores to be had you have to concentrate for all 18 holes to put it together.
Challenging course!
I have played here a few times and it’s always a challenge. The course has some really interesting holes and they are all completely unique. The course can be a little scruffy in places but where it matters it’s fine. Would and will play again!
Awful greens :(
I have played this course 7-8 times in the last 2 years. It is a lovely course and quite challenging. However, we played a 2-ball on Saturday 30th May 2020 and the greens were awful! I have played 2-3 times a week at different courses around the Surrey area since the lockdown restrictions were relaxed so there is no excuse for charging £35 at 4:30pm on greens so bumpy. Will definitely return but hoping the greens have been rolled out by then.
Wet
The wettest course i have ever played. May be ok in the summer. Stay clear if it has rained
Overpriced
I used to come to this course quite regularly a few years back, including in winter, because it was great, but was shocked to see it's current condition.
Driving range closed, delapildated buildings and signs worn out and falling down. Course looks like it hasn't see a decent greenkeeper in a long time. Rough greens and long fairways. Bunkers are like a bad day at the beach and full of grass.
Charging £35 for a round, these guys are having a laugh. Worth £15 at best now. Don't be ripped off!
Won’t be back - plenty of other options in the area
Played here as a 1 ball on Sunday of bank holiday weekend.
Booked an early morning tee time (£35.00 mins), and it was the worst round of golf I’ve ever had.
First impressions are poor - there are no nets to warm up in, and the driving range is closed, so no chance of practicing a few swings before teeing off.
Onto the actual course. I actually abandoned play after hole 11 - the pace of play in front wasn’t worth the wait given the shocking condition of the course. Tee boxes were uneven and had more sod than turf, some bunkers were completely overgrown with weeds and in some cases half the green was unplayable.
It’s a shame really - at £30+ you really expect a decent level of condition for this time of year. I won’t be back - no redeeming features.
Could be very nice...
Picturesque course. I am sure it used to be a lovely course but appeared to be need of a lot of care. Greens patchy. Fairways in a bad state in a number of areas. Not worth £30 plus. With some attention could be a top course.
Needs attention
Haven’t played this course for a few years and was disappointed with the condition. The greens were good but everything else needed work. The fairways, tees and the fringe around the greens were in a poor state. If you landed just off the green you were guaranteed a bare lie. I know bunkers can’t be raked at the moment but the condition of them was awful,, so hard you may as well be playing off concrete.
The pace of play was also slow, we were a four ball walking and we had to wait on every shot. All this said I haven’t given up entirely on this course. It’s in a lovely location and I know it used to be a good track so it can be again, it just needs a bit of tlc.
Good but tough
Played this course a few times, the layout is good and greens are very fast. Unfortunately I find the amount of hazards a bit much, constantly finding hazards when you get to the green....
Testing course but in great condition for summer.
