Many fairways at Portland plunge downward on their way to their greens. The first certainly exemplifies this, making for a tricky approach shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/25/2023

The 10th: Short par-4 that can be driven, but that’s a hard risk-reward proposition given what lies behind the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

A commanding hole in the form of a Switchback, twelve is also aesthetically impressive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

Course is beautiful
Portland Golf Course is in excellent condition and the pace of play was fine - there were no delays throughout the 18 holes. I was impressed with the communication between the pro shop & the starter with regard to cart assignment - the starter knew which cart to which we were assigned and immediately directed us to it.
The only issue I had was that I was plagued by insects on the course, despite liberal applications of bug repellent.
I would definitely play there again.
Very Well Maintained Course
I have played the West course previously; this was my first time playing this course and I enjoyed playing this course much more. I Payed $35 with a cart for 18 holes. The course was well maintained and the greens were in excellent shape, challenging, and played very fast. The pace was perfect. Played 18 with my friend and another single in a little under 4 hours. Did not have to wait on tees. I will definitely be playing this course again.

I like playing Portland because the course is always in beautiful condition it is challenging and the staff is very helpful and courteous
Slow
I have played this course plenty of times . Most of the time i have a great time. This Saturday however was not good. Course conditions were great. However the pace of play was atrocious. With 3 groups on almost every tee. The back up gave groups plenty of time to chat and get to know each other. The word on the course was they had jammed in as many groups as possible early because they had a large scramble scheduled for later in the day. On the back 9 another group had asked as employee what is going on? The response was that the owner showed up early in the day with 3 groups of four and jammed himself and his friends in. One of my guests had to leave after 12 holes due to the fact that it had already been 4 hours and that was the closest we were gonna be to the parking lot. At 56 dollars for the round i was extremely disappointed and doubt i will be returning. On of the worst golf experiences I've ever had. A course that usually provides a great experienced ruined by one bad day. Most of the groups i spoke with feel the same. I hope this review reaches the golf course and let's then know this is an easy way to lose customers. I hoped this helps.
A great day for golf. the course was challenging, the pace of play was good despite a good number playing
Watch the hills
Course is in great condition for this time of year. Greens were a little hard so difficult to get your shot to stick but still rolled true. Not an extremely long course but gives you plenty of challenging shots. Can't wait to get back there very soon!!
Slow Play
There were 14 players backed up at the 16th hole tee box with another group of players biding their time on the 15th green. Why?
It was the second week in April and we had a Monday morning tee time, just before 9 am, and went off right on our tee time. Play was a bit slow but on schedule for a four hour round. By the time we reached the 10th hole our wait-time became longer and longer but because of the course layout we could not see why. By the time we reached the 16th it became unbearable but we could now see why everyone was backed up. There were two foursomes of women from a morning women’s league that teed off before 9 on the back nine and were now just reaching the 17th tee. They had taken over 4 hours to complete nine, yes nine holes. There was no ranger on the course. Of course!
I’ve never had this problem before at Portland but, be assured, if I need to book a Monday morning tee time it will be after 11 am.
Horrible staff
Was told to start out on the back nine to keep pace of play up, but was met with a 8way back up of 2 foursomes. If a 3 hour back nine wasn't worse enough, when we made the turn (still waiting on the 2 groups in front of us) they start another 4 some on the front in front of us. Sat on the 1st tee box for over 30 minutes. Played here several times in the past and will not give them another dollar after this. The staff don't care about the consumer and are not friendly/ helpful at all. Better off playing the executive par 3 or quarry ridge a mile down the road. Better conditions and great staff.
Great for the money
Course is in great condition for this time of year
too many leaves
too many leaves on or near course couldn't find your ball nice course will play in the summer
Outstanding Greens
I hadn't played this course for about 6 months, but there was a Hot Deal I couldn't pass up. Lots of elevation changes and blind shots. Good shots are rewarded and poor shots are penalized. Not too long, but it's a fun course. The greens were the best I've played in a long time - fast and true.
Thank you for coming out again before the end of the season! We appreciate your review of the course and hope to see you again soon.

Great Little Course
Not a long layout. Lots of elevation changes. Great use of the topography & trees.
Don't miss this one !
I am not a member of any particular course at this time. My joy comes from playing a variety of layouts and the northeast has many great clubs ! Portland is one that I always look forward to playing. The conditions are always above average and along with their staff makes this a place I'll play three or four times a season.
We're glad you were able to make it out again! Thank you for your review and feedback on the course!
Good course big delay on starting time
I have played this course many times and never had problems on the first tee. On this date we had to wait half an hour to tee off because there were three foursomes ahead of us.there was not a frost delay and the man in the clubhouse said that there was a lot of bookings for that day. It was like they jammed a few extra tee times. If this happens again my group will have second thoughts about coming back again.
Hi Peter,
We're sorry you experienced a delay getting your round started. Thank you for the great review and for being a loyal golfer to Portland GC.
Best,
