Monroe CC Worth the drive
The course is in very good condition and is worth playing any chance you get.
The only improvement that they need is the sand traps, due to the wet early spring. They will have the bunkers groomed in no time.
Great Course
Course was in better than expected condition for this time of year. Starting to green up nicely. Greens were good.
Amazing condition.
Course could not have been in better condition. Greens / turf / bunkers all in great shape. Thx for a great round with my sons. Oh. And I beat em both. Ha
Decent course 5 some wouldn’t let single play through
Decent course, a lot of uphill greens but nice. Plaid on a Friday by myself and ran up on 5 some on hole 14. I know one player was an employee. They didn’t even make an attempt to let me play through. I understand they were probably members but it was the most ridiculous situation I’ve ever scene. It would of taken me about 5 minutes to get out of their way but nope...... I guess they own the course. I had to Watch these guys for about 45 minutes. But maybe that’s what they wanted. It wasn’t worth it.
First off, I understand Monroe GCC is a membered-owned club. That's the reason given for how they do certain things, but I just wanted to state that I understand that.
Had the first tee time today (because I've read pace of play can be rough behind said members) on a wet, cold Monday morning. I was just happy to be out with the sticks! I was ready to enjoy an early morning walk to keep the blood flowing. Upon checking in, I was strictly told "nope walking is only for members, sir."
I've never heard that one before...
I offered to pay for a cart and walk anyways, but I was met with the same flexibility of a sturdy two-by-fore -- "it's a member-owned club, sorry you can't walk. That's their right."
Okay...I'm not sure this is the best way to win over a new resident in the area, but hey, they can do what they want. They're member-owned. And I'll have to take my ambling elsewhere.
As for the actual course, it was what you'd expect. It's a classic, country layout with surprisingly good conditions for the time of year. Greens were smooth & fast (besides some patches of trouble about 1/3rd of the greens are having). Big-picture wise, trees are overgrown and encroaching on many tee shots not providing many options off the tee (but hey, you gotta execute). It's a fun parkland layout (so not many homes to contend with) with some cool elevation changes.
I understand the tensions of managing public play and tending to your members, but go fully private if you want to only cater to them. See how well that goes. I encourage to foster a different attitude towards visitors and really treat them as guests (and maybe future members!).
Too Slow
Fairways in good shape. Greens were bumpy and sparse.
Very disappointed that a fivesome was allowed to play in front of our group. This made or very slow play. Previously range balls were included - not any more.
Rain delays
last two times I played the course we had to wait for rain in between the rounds the course drains very well it's always good to go
Saturday morning
Enjoy the layout and course conditions
Pace of play was spoiled by 5 some of lady players that would not let a 2some through
Played really well untill we got stuck behind them then lost patience
Had to skip some holes to get past them
5somes on this course are quite common so get out early
Course needs to educate their players so etiquete
Fun course and well laid out
Friendly staff most players are considerate all around good time each time we play
1st time
Staff was friendly and course was in great shape. Pace of play was good especially after a 4 some let us play through. I would recommend this to any golfer. I golfed with my 11 year old and he was treated like any one else.
Good day
Still 90 degree, even with all the recent rain. Greens were excellent. Uphill greens always make this course a challenge.
Great Time!
Boy oh boy! The course is tricky and will test your shot placement ability. One thing you realize is, its sneaky long with the elevation changes on approach shots. Prepare to take club up on some even when you think you can make it. Course was in great condition, staff was very friendly plus the food from the consession was good but a little pricey. I will have to play this course a little more to get the feel of it.
Good course. Good value.
Overall we all thought the course was in good shape. There are lots of small elevated greens which it seems is the main protection for the course. We agreed we would have cut 2 strokes per 9 if not for the smallish greens. The tee boxes were as hard as my head but otherwise I really liked the course. I will come back again.
