Excellent fairways, huge greens in great condition. I played the gold tees
Sand traps full of rocks
Staff was super friendly. Beautiful course but sand traps are full of rocks. Nicked my brand new club.
Great public course
Atwood is a great course in the Rockford Park District. It is fairly open but still a challenging course with some long par 4s and 5s. We went off as a twosome and played through one foursome, then had no one in front of us. Completed 18 in 3.5 hours with a cart. An enjoyable day for golf!
Bug nirvana
The course is a nice course except for a few things. First of all, the whole course had an infestation of mosquitoes and gnats. It only got worse as we kept playing. The back 8 was unplayable due to the amount of bugs. The second issue I have is the lack of water on the course. They had too few water jugs out there and the ones I did find were empty.
good course, terrible pace of play
Played mid-day on a Sunday. early season, so no ranger present -- but course was busy enough there should have been. Course sheet on the cart stated a 2 hour and five minute pace of play was expected. Front nine took 2:25. When we asked about it at the turn, they didn't seem too concerned. Back nine took 2:20 -- for a four hour and forty-five minute round. Expressed our concern in the proshop when we finished, to see if this was unusual (and to gauge whether we should ever come back), and they seemed to think it was no big deal. This course is NOT that difficult! Pace of play was absolutely ridiculous, and no one doing anything about it.
The course itself is very nice -- good layout, very well-maintained (we have played her a couple times before and this was the case, then, too).
Solve the pace of play issue, and it's a fun course -- as it played yesterday, horrendous!
Atwood
Atwood is a very fun layout to play. For this early in the year the greens were smooth and quick. The rough was very tough as it is always tough in the first part of the year. As usual sand traps were not in very condition. That would be my only complaint with the course. Overall a great value for the money.
Great weather for 11/16/16
I took advantage of one of the last days in 2016 of good golfing weather in No. Ill. So, did many others. No one minded the 'deliberate' play of many foursomes. We enjoyed the day! Atwood was in good shape. Didn't see any deer or turkeys. A good, polite starter was at the desk, not the grump that often dwells there. Fallen leaves were not a problem. Sand in traps - sort of gravelly - as always there.

good pace and great weather for Nov. greens in great shape and challenging !
Sand traps more like gravel traps
Staff unfriendly but overall like this course
Amazing
This was the first time I played here. The course was in perfect condition. The greens were big rolled true. The fairways were cut perfect it was amazing for the price. Recommend for all types whether beginner to senior.
Great value
We have played courses in Il, MO, and WI so far this year. Atwood is the finest course we have played on. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in great shape. I thought they would be busier, given the deal of $16 for 18 and a cart. It's 40 miles from home, but worth the drive.
Fun to play
Been to this golf course since I was very young. Hasn't changed much and still enjoyable to play.
Nice staff, unfriendly customers
The course was good and challenging. The staff was really great and friendly. Most of the people were nice. My wife and I are not the best golfers around. We understand that, and not necessarily proud of it. But we try to be in good humour about it while having fun. We had a rude guy behind us tell us that we had to move out of the way so he and his friends could play through on hole 10. That just killed the fun loving mood that my wife and I had while trying to celebrate father's day with her and I for a while without the kids. I don't foresee us going back there any time soon.
This is a very nice course.
WE had received a Golf Now hot special. So the price was really good. But even without that this is a very nice course. We'll will be back to play again. Highly recommended.
