Worth it on Hot Deals
This course caught my eye because of the low cost to play on GolfNow. The course is in rough shape in some areas, especially if you’re in a riding cart. I did enjoy the layout of the course and it was challenging on certain holes. I definitely think this course is worth it and will be going back. I do hope that the conditions of the course improve because it has potential!
Horrible experience
I booked a 2 person tee time this past Sunday at 305, when we got there, no carts were available. They said they had 60 carts on the course. They asked if we were going to ride and we said yes, they moaned and groaned as if it was our fault we bought a tee time with a cart. After waiting 10 minutes for a cart, we were able to tee off, about 20 minutes late after having to wait for other groups. The pace was SO slow, we played NINE holes in 3 hours!! There were 4somes that split into 2somes once they started. We kindly asked them to join up to make the pace better for everyone but there was no ranger checking for pace of play. There would be 3 groups waiting at tee boxes to play, it was ridiculous. After finishing 9, we asked if we could get a rain check for the last 9. The employee said “well this is actually a twilight rate, so you get what you pay for. And, you could probably still finish before dark..” We told him this was unacceptable and that it states in their policy that 9 holes should take MAX 2 hours and 15 min. He tried to say it was the first weekend and nice weather but that is by far the worst and slowest round I have ever played and the staff, besides the cart girls, were extremely rude. They did give us a free 18 (but must purchase cart coupon) after we refused to not get some sort of refund.
Check for Senior Day!!
Make sure you call ahead and see if there are senior leagues going on. I was stuck behind a bunch of 5somes. Most courses do not let 5somes play but this one does. I finished to first 9 in 1 hour..no seniors..the back 9 took me over 3 hours to complete.
badfairways hole18shouldbereplacedshouldnotbe penalized for agood shot on some of the holes
Decent Course
I have not played this course for over 13 years. Was pleasantly surprised to see it in decent shape after all this time. It has a few gimmick holes..but overall a decent track to play.
Course conditions need help
Being retired I have the opportunity to play all over the twin cities and Rum River Hills is by far in the worse condition I have played. Years ago Rum River was our go-to course because of course conditions and layout. Regretfully I can no longer say that. Obviously the layout is the same however course conditions are very poor mainly the ruff. Dead grass from cutting wet is left on the ruff which apparently is not cut that often, in many places the ruff looks like it was cut with a weed wacker. The greens are in OK condition but if rolled would be better. The fairways were OK but that is as good as I can give it. This course just needs a lot of TLC.
Great course, poor staffing
Course was in good condition but the course ranger was a megalo-micro manager. Course gets a C due to ranger alone. Not only did all players have to check in with him personally because "only one person paid"... duh... it's the golf now app... but he also tried to "help us out" and have us tee off from the whites when we were intending to play the Blues because "this first hole is difficult and there's a lot of water out there"... say what?!
Needs work
Computer system down so they just told everyone to just go
Started everyobe on back 9. Sprinklers on 10th green were on and grounds crew doing maintenance on many of back nine holes. Mowing front 9 as well.
One hole crew was in fairways as we were trying to play.
No water or beverage cart No beverages in pro shop
Meh
Not impressed. Too many dog legs and very crammed together. Pace of play was terrible. They allowed way too many people on the course and every tee box was backed up. Wasn't run very well
good value
Enjoyable early-season round. The course which can be wet in places was in excellent condition for the time of year.
RRH is a decent track and a good value. Course is fairly challenging, especially if you don't hit it straight. Water comes into play on many holes. If you looking for a average golf course that is easy to get on, RRH is a good option. They also have an excellent men's club and ladies league.
golfed in november
went out with a buddy at about 10 am
a little bit wet but ok
temps in the 50's
course was in good shape considering wetness
Great Layout Great Conditions
My wife & I played this course and we were very pleased with the layout & conditions. We had read some earlier reviews before we booked our tee time and were a bit concerned, but after we got there and played a few holes, we were very pleased. The course was quite wet after a few days of rain, but the maintenance crew was busy getting the fairways mowed and the greens were great - very smooth & true. There were no issues with the fairways or the greens as listed in other reviews (I'm not sure where they were playing). The course has a good mix of holes and the flow of the course is very nice. The back nine is very picturesque and has some very good hole designs. Pro shop was nice & we got a couple of good deals on 50% off shirts. This is a great deal especially if you are able to use a Golfnow Hot Deal.
Buyer beware
Booked through golf now for a set price and when arriving at course charged a different price, starter said they go by their website not golf now. As for the course fairways are like the rough at most courses, same with the tee boxes. Greens in good shape and at least there was a food and drink cart driving around. Will not return!
mow the greens
mow the greens and the fairways otherwise love playing here
