Pre Hurricane Round: So So

First off we were very happy to find a golf course open as most of the ones near us in the east were closed. Will behind the counter was very friendly and told us to go out and enjoy ourselves. Now the course was a little rough with many tee boxes uneven and the rough extremely high and choppy. Bunkers were almost unplayable with most void of sand and weeds growing out of them. Most of the fairways and greens were good but there were many bare spots on the greens and a few of those bare spots on the fairways. All in all we were happy to get a round in and might try going back when the conditions improve.

3rd time in 3 years that I've visited CCCC and each time I walk away wondering WHY I don't play there more often. From the super friendly staff to the great course conditions(even if they were cut a little short by storms) you can't get better than this in Florida. Towels, water & ice on the carts start your round off on the right foot. When most courses in the area are cart path only this course had only a few sections where standing water made you drop a shot. If you are looking for a great course with great people you must make a visit(or in my case, more visits) to Champions Gate Country Club. You won't regret it.

Establishment Run The Way It's Suppose To Be

After stating my disapproval of management of another course the previous week it's with great pleasure that I give high marks to the staff @ Halifax for making our golf day so enjoyable. Getting there early so that hopefully we could beat the afternoon Fla. storms the gentleman who checked us in offered us the chance to go out early. We didn't even have to ask. The gent who helped us with our cart was also very accommodating. The course was in great shape and we survived the heat and beat the storms that followed. Would highly recommend Halifax for any future rounds and will take the 1:45 min trip again next month. Thank you

Great Course, Questionable Staff

I'd start review by highly recommending Providence for course conditions and a fun layout and round. Greens were excellent with a smooth roll anywhere on green. Tee boxes were in the process of being repaired with usually one of the 3 selected boxes closed while the white tees were moved all the way up to the Ladies tees. We still found a spot to tee off closer to scorecard measurements. If you find the deep rough be prepared to pay the price. No problem with that.
Now for the problem! Being a single and arriving about 40 mins early I was a little surprised with the attitude of the desk check-in. Once he confirmed my time as Golf Now he said I'd have to wait for the other 3 bookings. One a single and the other a couple. He said he'd try to get me off by my scheduled time. Now the course was empty, with maybe 6 cars in the lot. Temp rising and reaching almost 100 during the day. I putted a little before an elderly gentleman came walking up to my cart carrying a bag and was obviously struggling in health. He asked my name and was told he was to join me on my cart. I asked why he wasn't given his own cart. He definitely would have liked that and went to ask the desk again. Back he came with a negative on cart. So he joined me even though there was no one going out in the time I was there or I witnessed anyone near us. Empty carts backed up for play! A lot! about 10 mins our other couple joined us and were equally puzzled why we had to wait for them. Anyway, off we go about 5 mins before our time. In the middle of our opening hole a 3 some came up and ended up right up our ....! By the 3rd hole we split up as 2 twosomes and the party behind us passed them immediately and we let them go throw by the 6th hole. So in the middle of an empty course we have 3 holes jammed with 7 golfers and waiting for each other of shots. Ridiculous!!! What kind of management can justify these actions in the middle of summer play in Florida? If I was able to go right out or even when my partner joined we would have been 2-3 holes ahead of anyone, still no one in front of us. A cart for each of us singles would have meant quicker play and another advantage to finishing quicker in stifling heat. Once again it seemed that being a Golf Now golfer was being held against us. Any play on these types of days should be welcome. Now this only happens once in a while so most courses are great with GN players. There needs to be some kind of questions asked when incidents like this happen.
In conclusion, if you want to play a nice, well kept course AND pay the going rate take a ride to Providence. As for me I'll pass as there are plenty of good courses WITH great staffs who will treat you with a little respect. Go there and enjoy their empty course!

Might Want to Wait a Few Weeks

Haven't been to SB in quite some time but really enjoyed the layout and the staff was great. As for the course itself it would get a poor/fair rating from me at this time. I understand that they are getting ready to aerify (not sure if just the greens or fairways also) Monday. For this reason I can, to an extent. the conditions of the greens. Even with most of them at 50% they didn't roll too bad. Fairways were pretty dry but you could find green to put your ball on. Not sure if the rough is always with "rough" but that's the penalty for not hitting straight. For all these reasons I would wait to play until possibly July but I had a fun day and will return before summer's end. Thanks to the staff.

Excellent Playing Conditions Preceded by 1st Class Staff

Not that it was a surprise but the National Course was in excellent shape and the staff treated you oh so well. Knowing that i may get tied up by a small group which was going off the 1st & 2nd tee my starter told me to ride ahead and find a hole open and go from there. Made for a quick, well paced round. Conditions were close to perfect especially when so many other courses have bare spots in the fairways and dead spots on their greens. Highly recommend grabbing a round at CG as they are getting ready to close one of the courses for 5 weeks or so for maintenance.

For Something Different

Been a few years since I visited Highlands and enjoyed myself yesterday. Course in decent shape and liked it because it is not your usual Florida course. Elevation changes and undulating greens make for a challenging round. Don't know who makes up the slope rating but tougher than on card. Was told ahead of round that the fairways weren't in top shape but they weren't awful. Some bare spots but found enough grass to make every shot comfortable. Greens were tough to see from fairway (say 150 yds out) because of undulation so had the luxury of having time to go up ahead of shot and checking out the green. It helped. Staff was very helpful and friendly and even picked up a couple of nice shirts on sale for a great price. Highly recommended

Terrific Day @ an A+ Course

Since I do a lot of complaining about rude golfers and unprofessional staff members it was an absolute pleasure to have an experience like I just had at Martin Downs. Check in with a smile and starter put me out with a friendly twosome as soon as he hears I was a single. AND a 1/2 hr. early! Course was busy for a weekday mid day as most times at this time of year. The difference was the great group of golfers ahead, behind and with me. Everyone was on the same page as they went to their ball while waiting for their shot (this means one person dropping the other at his ball and taking his cart to his ball) Measurements were taken while waiting for your shot and when the coast cleared out the shots were immediately taken. Pace of play was great as the only time spent looking for a lost ball was while waiting for your shot.
As for the course all aspects were great even if the fairways were a little thin in spots. No hard ground to hit off of and greens were receptive to accurate shots. On this day the wind was very strong (over 20 mph) so scoring was a challenge. 2 triples and 2 doubles didn't help my scorecard but, believe me, I never had a better time having a bad round.
Highly recommend the Downs to all golfers who are worn down by employees who don't want to be at their job and golfers who don't give a "hoot" about anyone but themselves on the course. Can't wait to return as soon as I get some time.

A Good course to Sharpen your Game but don't expect pristine conditions

With the prices of winter golf in Florida you could say with all earnest "you get what you pay for". Price for Wedgefield so decent for Sunday am but reviews are pretty accurate. Course was a tad below average with thin fairways (very hard in spots) and greens passable at best. The tee boxes were the best aspect of the course as they were level and consistent. I've always liked the layout but wished the course was in better condition. Still, I'd recommend for the simple reason that the course makes you think about where each shot has to be put to score well. That said, once you put your ball in those spots the course makes it difficult to execute the needed shot. Once you do get to the green, depending on where on the spotted green you land, it makes it a challenge to finish your plan. I'll be back but simply know that I'm going to get a round in and not expecting a lot of help from the course. Our girl checking us in was excellent, and she had to leave the desk to deliver some carts from the barn for golfers. Great job!

Superb service-OK course

I always think super service is worth at least one extra star in rating a course. AR goes above & beyond to make you feel wanted and appreciated. Other courses bring a cart to your car and pick up your clubs. Here they not only do that but leave the cart for you to finish up your business, like putting on your shoes, and they walk back. At the finish you go to your car, they take the walk over to your car to pick it up and bring it back. Always a smile and thank you from them for playing their course. The check in was great and the starter asked if I was ready and didn't care if I was 20 mins early. A wave from all the workers passing by. Great customer service.
As for the course it was fine, although I was hoping for more scenic views. Lots of holes by noisy small craft airport. No biggie. 17th island green well worth the round. Good experience and will visit again on return trips north.

Southern Hospitality AND a Nice Course

Some of the course in my area here in Florida can learn a thing or two from the great folks @ SH. The course is definitely off the beaten trail on your way up from the south but sooooo glad I made the effort. Great greeting with some enchanting small talk and helpful info on the course. Not a lot of players at this time of day, around noon, so had the course for myself. Great shape and a lot of things to like about it. Tee boxes, CHECK, fairways well maintained, CHECK, solid greens (although some a little tricky, which is great), CHECK. Nice day and very favorable experience. Will keep in my golf book as one of the courses to return to if in the area. Highly recommended

Tale of 2 Courses

I apologize up front for talking more about the hospitality of these 2 courses than the course itself but Golf Now should know about how courses react to Golf Now patrons. Played Spruce Creek last week and had an altercation with someone from the DESK after getting to the tee box. Being there early I checked with the baggage gentlemen who happen to be the one letting people out. He told me about a large group going out shortly which would have resulted in me getting substantially behind schedule. He said check with the desk about joining up with a 3-some getting ready to go out. I did so and was told I had to wait until the rest of the Golf Now bookings checked in(I did not know these people). Went back out and the same man said that 3-some was the first of that large group and I should go and join them. They were great and welcomed me. As I approached the tee box the front desk guy came zipping up in a golf cart and told me I shouldn't join them and if I didn't like the rules then I should contact, and very sarcastically, your Golf Now and try to get a refund. I've heard of others talk about some of the GN bias at courses but this was over the top. Anyhow, from now on Spruce Creek is off my list.
Now for the exceptional treatment I received at Eagle Marsh. Checking in at the pro shop there was a problem with my reservation not showing up on his tee sheet. He promptly called Golf Now, which put him on hold trying to make the connection to a representative. After a min or two the gentlemen told me to go on out and since it was GN he would wait for the confirmation. A big smile and off I went. The course was in great shape and I had a very enjoyable day. Thank you Eagle Creek for your courtesy & consideration. I'll totally recommend you every time. Golf Now should look into courses that obviously don't want GN golfers.

Tougher Than It Appears

Playing with some locals helped us navigate thru some blind holes and made for a very imaginative day. Lots of doglegs and sand traps around practically every green. Course in good shape although greens were a little slow. Good course deserves a good review. Pro shop very receptive. Well done!

Need to Bring Your Top Game

If you're a weekend hacker then I suggest you find a easier course than the Evergreen Club. This is not a put down on this facility which is first class all the way. The course is in great shape and the staff is exceptional. The course is a little tight to begin with and once you get to certain hole on the back 9 you better study your club selection carefully. For me personally I really enjoy a course where you don't just grip & rip every hole and need to calculate your yardage and weather conditions. On the day we went it was quite windy so it made for a lot of pondering between shots. Real enjoyable. Head down and play a round or two as I've taken the 1 1/2 trip three times this past year. Just don't forget your thinking cap!

Solid Course Run Professionally

Don't get up to play LPGA very often but always look forward to it when I do. From the time you drop your bag until the time you put it back in the trunk the experience is first class. Starter got me out as a single 45 mins ahead of time and course was in fabulous shape. On a busy day pace of play was great, getting done in about 3 1/2 hrs. Got a very good price on GN and had an enjoyable day. Not a bad post Christmas present!

Not Used Often: Perfect

It is one of those words that I use very sparingly because I feel it's misused but yesterday was one of those perfect golf days. Whatever change Victoria Hills made earlier in the year it worked beautifully. I always liked the course but felt they were way over priced. Rarely did I see any Hot Deals so up until this year I only played once or twice. Now with the reasonable price changes I've traveled 1:45 mins twice in 3 months to enjoy this unique course. Changes in elevation, different challenges from hole to hole, and great conditions make this a must play for any skilled golfer. Many tee boxes offer each golfer an enjoyable and challenging experience. Nice weather, partnered up with a couple of pleasurable gentlemen and it was a day to fully savor. Thank you VH

Wish You Could Pick Your Course

Having played CBCC a few times I would definitely recommend the River Course out of the three. The Dolphin is the shortest but a stern test and the Lakes would be my personal third choice. All three are usually in very good shape but the River has the sound of the river next to you on most shots, which is very tranquil. It also offers a tough test. Problem is you rarely know which two courses you'll get when booking on Golf Now. Except for closure due to maintenance I really don't see a problem with being able to pick your course, especially later in the day. Just my take!

Back in my own environment it still had been a year since I visited Viera. Course was a little dry in spots but overall a very respectful and well kept course to play an enjoyable round of golf. Another Treasure Coast Gem

Being from the Space Coast and playing most of the courses here for years I finally am getting some time to explore other counties and courses. Having traveled south for the past 3 weeks or so I have found out the reason they call it the Treasure Coast. For golfers there are many golden gems to choose from at VERY reasonable rates. You don't have to travel to Orlando or other big golf areas to play pristine courses. Just a nice ride to Martin or Indian counties will give you everything you would enjoy in a golf course. Lost Lake is the newest in my "will definitely play again" folder. Easy wonderful check in, a super greeting from a very nice and informative lady who picked up my golf bag like it was her purse. The course was beautiful and in great shape. A 4-some in front of me did take their time inviting me, a single, to play thru but eventually let me go on the turn. The only complaint, and in no way is this the course's fault, was the continuous discourtesy of fellow golfers to fix divot holes on the greens. If you are not going to adhere to golf etiquette why are you out there? If you don't know ask the pro shop, a starter , or read up on them. Nothing frustrates other golfers than poor etiquette by fellow players. Make this an enjoyable experience for all involved. Back to the point, head over to Lost Lake for a very nice day of golf. Lots of nature and a relaxing atmosphere to bring out the best the game has to offer. I'll be back!!!
