The Quarry Golf Course
Played On 06/20/2017The Quarry
A very unique layout, that you would be hard to find just about anywhere. As the name states it used to be a limestone quarry. It has some very unique holes and with no one way that the holes need to be played, this course is great for imaginative shot makers. The staff is very friendly and were very helpful. It is very easy to get to from downtown San Antonio.
The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 05/25/2017The Tribute
The course is closing in early June to re-do the greens. With that being said the course was in decent shape EXCEPT the greens. I would wait until the course reopens in early fall to play.
Bridges - The Masters at Firewheel Golf of Garland
Played On 05/23/2017The Bridges at Firewheel
This Course has 3 sets of 9 holes: Masters, Champion and Tradition. This review is for Champion and Tradition. The Champion course is fairly straight forward with its placement of bunkers and water hazards. The greens and fairways are currently in great shape. The Tradition has houses on almost every hole. For the most part they are back far enough that it should not make a difference. Placement of shots is key on this 9. Number 7 has a blind second shot as well as number 9 having and elevated green over water. Again the greens and fairways are in great shape. Will play here again.
Waterchase Golf Course

Upon checking in we were asked if this was the first time playing here. It was so the gentleman behind the desk took a few minutes to show us the course map and gave a few tips on playing the course. Also during this time the person at the snack bar informed us there was no beverage cart and offered to set us up with a cooler. It is the kind of service you would expect from a resort, it was appreciated! From tee to green the course is currently is superb shape! It had rained the night before so it was cart path only and we still played in 4 hours. Even with the rain, the bunkers were in good shape. The greens are well maintained and roll true. I am not bothered by the Pro-shop and snack bar being in a trailer. I would rather see that than a grandiose clubhouse and poorly maintained course. Will play here again.
Hole 5 has a pond in middle of the hole that is hard to see from the tee box.
Twin Creeks Golf Course
Played On 05/01/2017Twin Creeks
The course has a fairly straight forward layout with enough water to make it interesting. Some of the greens are in rough shape but I believe that is being managed. Most of the sand traps are in good condition as well as the tee boxes. Pace of play can be an issue depending on what day you go. Overall a decent value.
Tierra Verde Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2017Tierra Verde
Tierra Verde is currently in great shape! No complaints from tee to green. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The layout is great and I have never felt like I am being crowded. If the course was cheaper I would play there more often. There is always hope.
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 04/23/2017The Bridges
The course is in good shape and looks like its going to be a good summer at The Bridges! The bunkers are in great shape, I spent enough time in them to know. There is nuances to the greens so make sure you get the proper read. Its an easy drive from DFW, check it out!
Cedar Crest Golf Course
Played On 03/01/2017Cedar Crest
The course has recently re-opened after undergoing a renovation. Its in great winter shape! The greens are small and roll true. Bunkers are in terrific shape. The course is not overly long, so driver is not needed on every hole. Cedar Crest was designed by A. W. Tillinghast and was the site of the PGA Championship in 1927, won by Walter Hagen. Overall this is a fun track and I will play here again.
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 02/12/2017Hilton Head National
The course is in great shape from tee to green. The greens are smooth and rolling extremely well for this time of year. The staff is very friendly as always and always are happy to assist you. I also enjoy that there are no houses around so there is no need to cringe if you slice a tee shot. This is also a great time of year to play since its not busy season. The pace of play is better than say July due not as many people in the area.
On a personal note, this was the first golf course I played when I moved to Hilton Head in 2001. I am deeply saddened to hear that they are trying to rezone the area for condo, houses, restaurants etc. Through the years this course has been such a great place to play. Even after moving from South Carolina, I have tried to play here every time I am in town.
Although nothing has been finalized, play here while you can. This course will be missed!
Old South Golf Links
Played On 02/11/2017Old South
The course is in good winter shape. Also after Hurricane Matthew, they seem to have recovered well. Some of the neighboring courses have not faired as well. The greens are in good condition as well as the tee boxes and bunkers. There are some challenging holes peppered in the layout. Its a challenging course, but not so hard that you want to throw your clubs into the marsh.
Hi "TheOBchef" Thank you so much for the great review. The course has come along way since hurricane Matthew. We hope you enjoyed the challenge and cant wait to have you back again next year.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 02/05/2017Golden Bear
If you have never played this course, why not? The course is always in great condition from tee to green. One of the great things about playing here is that it makes you think. Narrow fairways make tee shots so important on this course. You will have an easier time here if you don't try to muscle the course. The staff is very friendly and professional. Unlike some of the other courses in the Hilton Head area, the houses on the course do not feel like they are on top of you.
Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club
Played On 01/31/2017Heritage Ranch
The course is in good winter condition. The greens are superbly maintained and roll true. Fun layout with some risk/reward holes. The staff is very friendly and let us know about course conditions before heading out.
Old American Golf Club
Played On 01/30/2017Old American
This is still my favorite course in DFW! The course has been renovated since the flood, including downsizing some of the bunkers making the course more playable. With that being said I believe this is the most challenging golf course open to the public in the metroplex. The greens are small and very undulating making ball placement key. Sitting on Lake Lewisville makes for great views and major headaches when the wind is blowing.
Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
Played On 01/29/2017Ridgeview Ranch
Even in winter conditions the course is in good shape. Greens and bunkers are well maintained. I especially like the layout of this course. Staff is very friendly and happy to help. Only down side to the course is pace of play. On the weekends be prepared to wait.
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 01/25/2017The Bridges
This course is normally in good condition and this time was no different. Even with winter conditions and the fairways being dormant, this is a fun course. The greens are in superb shape. If you don't live in the area, its fairly easy to get to. Sometimes courses outside the DFW Metroplex can be a hassle to get to, this is not one of them.
Hi "TheOBchef" Thank you for the great review. We are so glad you enjoyed your day with us. The course is in great shape right now, please come back and see us again soon.
The Club at Los Rios
Played On 01/23/2017Los Rios
This is good course for beginners and those who are working on your game. The holes are fairly straight forward and is pretty wide open. The greens are normally in pretty good shape as well as the tee boxes. You can also rent Golf Boards, which I would highly recommend trying!
Coyote Ridge Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2016Coyote Ridge
I have not played here in 2 years so I was not sure what to expect. The course has a great layout and is in great shape, besides a few bunkers. It looked as if the bunkers are under repair so its good to see they know the issue. The greens are lightning fast making the course more challenging. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Hopefully it will not be another two years before playing this track again!
Tangle Ridge Golf Club
Played On 08/29/2016Tangle Ridge
When you drive up to the course you think houses are going to be on top of you. This is not the case, homes are far enough back where you do not notice them. The layout is fantastic, from its doglegs to blind tee shots this course has a bit of it all. Fairways are pretty wide so a bad tee shot won't ruin your round. The bunkers are in great shape and will make you think about club selection when you are on the tee box. It is worth the drive.
Mesquite Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2016Mesquite Golf Club
This course is great for beginners and those looking to work on your game. At 6885 yards from the back tees you will not need to use driver on every hole. This muni makes up for any distance issues with it fast and undulating greens. Overall the course is in good shape from tee to green.
Tenison Park Golf Club - Tenison Highlands Course
Played On 07/25/2016Tension Highlands
Even though Tenison Highlands and Tenison Glen are on the same property, they are worlds apart. The Highlands layout is not something you would expect when you pull into the parking lot. There are massive trees that line the fairways and guard portions of the greens. Greens have a lot of break, but roll true. This is by far my favorite D.A. Weibring designed course.
