I have been playing golf at the Winstar since the course first opened as a single 18 hole course. It now has two 18 hole courses.and they both used to be great courses that were always in great condition.
I played there yesterday and, unfortunately, they let the golf course go completely downhill.
It is in the worst shape I have ever seen it in. Don't waste your money. All of the tee boxes and fairways are almost completely bare with no grass. The greens were OK but everything else sucked
THIS GOLF COURSE IS IN TERRIBLE SHAPE AND IS NOT WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A CASINO REDORT GOLF COURSE.
Need to stress divot/ball mark repair
Course (Scissortail) is getting better each day. The greens are 1000% better, the fairways are filling in, still need a lot of sod.
Need to stress on carts and signage the importance of filling in fairway divots and ball marks on greens. I gave up after about 30 ball marks.
Very technical course
Few narrow days and very nice greens. Re-sodding the fairways was on going but in the winter it played great.
Excellent experience all the way around!
Top notch, first-class, and every other description for an amazing golfing experience applies here. I just can't say enough about how great the course is and the SERVICE was second to none. Great practice areas, over-seeded dark green fairways and the greens were rolling fast and true. Every staff member I encountered from the time I parked the car to the time I left was friendly, courteous and welcoming - a rare experience in golf these days. It's obvious there is an established culture of gratitude and excellent service. The post-round $4 draft beers were icing on the cake. I'd been wanting to get up to Winstar Golf forever and I'm glad I finally did. Now I can't wait to get back. Seriously, this ain't no paid endorsement, it is THAT GOOD!
Had a great time
The course was in great shape for the time of year.
Really looking forward to coming back.
December golf
The course is in very good shape for December. The winter rate definitely makes it a must play. With the condition of the course, friendly staff and other amenities its like playing a private member’s only course.
Pretty much as expected
Like the past reviews - course has been re-sodded in several areas and forces you to play the ball in the air. Greens were on the slow side but in good shape. Fairways hit and miss with grass but the overseed is taking hold and they are playable. These are still great layouts and fun to play. For the price we paid, very much worth the trip from DFW. We had to stop after 9 holes due to rain, but I went back later and played the back 9 after the sun came out. There is hope that once spring rolls around, the sod will have taken hold and the course will be fully grassed again.
Getting Better
So glad they have taken steps to improve the course conditions from the freeze a few years ago. The fairways are looking better. Can’t wait till the spring comes and the fairways are fully healed from the sod that they have placed down. I would play again this year if the weather permits.
Slowwwww
Goodnight. Where’s the marshal? A twosome held up the foursome in front of us and we only played 15 holes which took 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Beautiful Day
Course has areas with new sod but it did not negatively impact the day. Great layout, beautiful greens. Really like both courses up here. About 1:20 minute drive from McKinney
If You Like to Lose Golf Balls . . .
If you go into the first rough, the chances of find you ball is less than 50%. If you go into the second rough, forget about it.
Liquor prices are the highest I have paid this year.
Nice course overall but temp conditions really affected play.
Big patches of sod in the fairway kept you from playing short and rolling onto greens. Balls hit onto the green would not hold. Other than these temporary setbacks course was beautiful and food was good. Tough course from any tee.
Most of the course is good
Some repairs are going on, but compared to all other courses this is in pretty good shape for a drought.
Good greens, rough fairways
Greens are in good shape but the fairways are very poor with staff trying to get the track back in shape. There are a lot of areas with fresh sod in the fairways and around the greens. The sod is raised higher than the turf around it which will stop your roll and give you awful bounces.
