About
Red Tail Run Golf Club is situated on the south side of Decatur, Ill. The course stretches across open, gently rolling land where the bird that the club was named after, the Red Tail Hawk, circles freely overhead. Designed by PGA Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd, the golf course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways. Native prairie grasses also accent the landscape, adding to the layout's level of difficulty. At 5,651 yards, the golf course isn't terribly long but the openness of the landscape means that your round will be subject to the wind. Depending on how it's blowing, it can play much longer. Red Tail Run Golf Club has a mix of challenging and player-friendly holes, giving the course appeal for players of all skill levels. Red Tail Run also has a driving range available for warming up.

Tough links course especially with a 20 mph wind.
Greens were fast due to the windy condition. The collars of some of the greens were too wet to play as a links style course, a chronic greenskeeping problem at this course. One reason that the designer, Ray Floyd won't come back and visit.

very nice greens and fairways
Everybody in our foursome really enjoyed the course. Their were some very challenging holes and some easier holes so the variety was good. We liked it enough to want to play and extra nine and we will be back.
Wonderful golfcourse
The course is very challanging, well maintained and a pleasure to play. It's hard to believe this is a muni. I would recommend this course to everyone!
Keep an eye on your ball if you stray from the fairway.
The course is a challenge due to the different levels of rough and natural grass. There usually is a breeze that needs to be factored into your stroke. I enjoy it here and will be back!
pace of play
not a ranger in sight. Group played so slow in front of us we skipped last two holes. This has been a common problem at these Decatur courses I will avoid them like the plague
Great Greens
Despite all the rain and early in the season the course was in very good condition.
The greens were in great shape rolling smooth and fast. That's what I believe brings people back to play this course despite it being a little rough around the edges which is part of the makeup of this course.
Love the layout especially Raymond's Turn and I'm sure it will only get better as the season continues.
Supurb condition
Rained all 18 holes but greens were still fairly fast. Course was in great condition.
Great rate and the course was challenging, especially the back nine. Wish we had a course of this caliber, at the price in the St. Louis area
Was a nice track at a great price. would recommend this course to anyone.
