Excellent golf today
Thoroughly enjoyed the round. Shot a little over my norm. Still really nice conditions and pace of play. Did not have to wait on a single tee all day.
Nice course/ opportunities
I enjoy playing this course. I am new to golf and it is conveniently located. There are some opportunities with drainages specifically at Hole 2 behind the bunkers. There is an area with stagnant water and weeds that look like they need to be managed.
Private Course Quality
Beautiful course, cannot rave enough about it. Greens were rolling very well despite the rain and the vertical cutting and sanding a few weeks ago. Just keeps getting better and better can't wait until fall when it's not crowded everyday.
Nice course in great condition
Given the heat and drought conditions, the course was in really good shape. The greens were rolling true and the fairways weren't rock hard like some other area courses. As it was Monday and very hot, the course wasn't crowded and I played quickly as a solo. The more I play this course, the more I like it.
Good Value, Good Course
Course Condition: Solid - it was end of August. Most TX courses are dirt around now. I was happy w conditions.
Pace was great. Not much pressure on course, but highs were 100d today. Still, even in this heat, a lot of TX courses are packed and slow.
Good beer selection but clubhouse diner was sub-par. Friendly people, but this isn’t where you hang out w golf friends.
I have heard a lot of hype about this course and was eager to play, First few holes were slow because some group wanted to play as a group of like 8 and they were all hacks but they were actually really cool and let us through and were cheering us on. Its a really really beautiful place to be when the sun goes down. I travel down here for business all the time and usually just snag GolfNow hotdeals wherever but Im more than willing to pay full rate here because it is a great value
I've been playing this course nonstop since I moved down here from the east coast at the beginning of the year.. I could go on and on about the course and how much it has improved but I still suck so what I love most here is the sense of community and the overall atmosphere. The staff is young intelligent and attractive and they really care about the place. I'd never before seen a public golf course staff pick up cigarette butts in the parking lot before. There are a lot of really nice members; good family oriented people and other young people like myself. I didn't know a soul in Austin when I came down here and now I've met numerous people out here that I golf with and have become friends with.
They've made numerous improvements and say "they are just getting started". Seems to me like ShadowGlen is the future of Austin public golf. Hope they continue to do well
Shadow Glen is deluxe. Great staff, course in excellent shape, especially the greens. They roll true and are perfect speed, high 9's I was told by pro shop. These mullets in front of me tried to play as a six some but thankfully a Marshall was on it. Til next time!
I have a job where I travel every week and as a result have been able to play a good number of public golf courses in Texas and there's a couple things that always make ShadowGlen stand out to me. For starters, every time I come here whether its only been a week since I was last there or a month they have always made new improvements. I look forward to coming here just to see what new improvement they are starting. They have a young vibrant staff who really seems to care about the place. The fairways and greens are seriously too good to be true for a course in this price range. I've played numerous private courses this summer that aren't even close to being this nice
Great conditions and value
Great course for the price and the greens and fairways are in excellent condition compared to others in the same price range. Holes are spaced out and not on running alongside each other, which can be the case with some of the Austin courses.
Busy, due to COVID-19, but in great shape
This was my first time at ShadowGlen, and it did not disappoint. The greens were in great shape, a little hard, but rolled true. The fairways were impeccable. Some of the tee boxes (I played gold) could use work, but overall it was worth every cent. There are some tough holes (the par 5s on the back), so don’t be afraid to play the easier tees. Definitely recommend a round out here. Also, the clubhouse has great beers on draft for after the round, and a very friendly and cute staff.
Great Course, Great Condition
Course is in excellent condition, you can tell they are putting money back into the course and making it even better. Will be back!
Cheering Section Hole 2
The pace of play was slow. The group in front of us had three carts and were VERY selective of their shots, which ended up poorly after swinging anyway. Overall, the course itself was in fairly good shape. Good greens, well kept fairways, and looked good. The sand bunkers are awful, like hitting off the cart path.
Beware hole number 2. There is a washed up old man living there who loves to scream at people on the fairway. If you want a real treat, accidentally hit your ball even remotely near his fence, he thinks he is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and will come scream during your shots. Almost worth the price of admission itself.
Not sure why they flip flop first nine holes with back nine, its SUCKS.
Play this course couple times a month. Challenging but fair course. Good tee box selection to fit player handicap . Having played yesterday, the greens are in excellent condition. Amazing considering the amount of play. Great to see they are continuing with ongoing upgrades, improvements to the course. Friendly, positive staff and ownership. Worth every penny. Thank you.
Best Public Course in Austin
You really can't beat this place, It's not that there's any one thing that's just way better than any other course its that they check all the boxes. It's away from the city and very serene and quiet out there, you only hear cars and highway noise on a few holes. Back 9 is gorgeous when the sun sets. The layout is very unique and a big reason why I keep coming back. It's totally different than the rest of Austin, its surrounded by tall deciduous trees and while there's lots of elevation changes, it's not hill country elevation change style. Nonetheless they still have some links style holes. The layout overall is challenging to a level where you can feel good about your game posting a good round here. but its super playable from the forward tees.
The course is typically in good shape, the greens were pretty rough after they aerated a few months ago but they are way better now which is amazing considering this place is booked up everyday. The bunkers are rough and my guys always b**** but they are hazards you are supposed to be penalized for hitting in them.
But just the overall atmosphere out there is incredible. its a real golf course but without the snobby uptight feel. You go to some courses and the staff all acts like they have staff bags shoved up their ***es. Here they got dogs walking around the clubhouse, Tigers masters wins on replay in the bar, real Texas country music playing and the staff is all young and cool.
Thanks for the great review brother! More improvements to come, see you next time!
